In-School Mentoring is a program offered through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Moncton. Similar to the traditional "Big and Little" program, adults are matched with young students who would benefit from the regular attention and support of a caring adult. For one hour a week, mentors meet with their student and engage in non-academic activities during the school day, within school grounds.
Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds is an after-school program designed for girls between the ages of 12 to 14. Led by trained female mentors, the girls meet once a week for a 2 hour session on school property. The objective of the program is to offer girls an open and safe environment where topics such as physical activity, healthy eating choices, self-image and relationships are discussed. Each session provides an opportunity for the girls to participate in fun, educational activities that encourage mentor/participant relationship-building, self-reflection and group discussions about topics that are important to them. Each session is structured around three key themes: active living, balanced eating and feeling good about oneself.
Game On! Eat smart - play smart - live smart is an after-school program that provides boys with information and support on making informed choices regarding a range of healthy lifestyles practices. Through non-traditional physical activities, complemented with healthy eating support, participants are engaged in life skills, communication, and emotional health discussions designed to engage them in the pursuit of life-long healthy lifestyles.
