The annual Anglophone East District Oratory competition was
held Wednesday night at Riverview High School. Students from district schools
competed in the middle and high school division in two categories, spoken work
poetry and public speaking.
Congratulations to the winning students: Lacey Geddes who
attends Sunny Brae and Emma Etheridge, Riverview Middle, 2nd and 1st
place middle school public speaking; Aaliyah Lahai, Moncton High and Tyler
Thorne, Riverview High, 1st and 2nd place high school public
speaking; and Jaelyna LeBlanc, Moncton High and Lauren Wilkins, Bernice
MacNaughton High, 2nd and 1st place high school spoken
The first and second place students advance to the provincial
competition, Speak Out 2017, on May 26 at St. Thomas University.
Students at the provincial competition will participate in workshops in spoken
word poetry, debate and public speaking. The workshops will allow students to
learn new techniques in their chosen area or develop their interests in other
