The Home and School committee has been busy planning our annual Family Fun Day which is quickly approaching on June 9th. One of the big fundraisers that evening is our silent auction and we are calling out to our school families this year to help. Arnold H. McLeod School is participating in the NB Student Wellness Survey. This survey gathers information from parents and guardians of students in Kindergarten to Grade 5.  It surveys attitudes and behaviors as our school aims to improve the health and wellness of the children in our community.  Please return your anonymous survey in the provided envelope to your child’s teacher no later than Tuesday May 23rd.

Our annual Volunteer Appreciation event will take place on Friday May 26th at 12:45 pm.  Invitations were sent out this week. If you have given us some of your valuable time and we missed sending you an invitation please know that you are more than welcome to attend.  If you would RSVP to Mrs. French by Wednesday May 24th it would be greatly appreciated.

Tomorrow night is the night for our 7th annual Night of the Arts!  Please remember that the doors open at 6:00 pm.  There will be concession stands and an Art sale.  Please note that during the performances the sales will shut down.  You are more than welcome to stay in the hallways but please be mindful of the performances that will be occurring in the gym. Your child has a slip in their agenda that lists their artwork.  You may find it helpful to bring that along with you tomorrow night.  The night promises to be a very special one!  We hope to see you there.

In lieu of admission to the Night of the Arts we are asking for a donation to the AHM Breakfast Program.  Items such as cereal bars, jam, non-sugar cereal and Cheez Whiz would be very much appreciated.  You will also have the opportunity to purchase any piece of art on display with a donation of your choice to the AHM Arts Fund.  We hope to see you there.

Parents and visitors are reminded that they are not to use student washrooms during school hours.  If it’s an emergency you can ask at the office and we will do our best to accommodate you.

The LEARN Celebrations for Grades 3-5 will take place on Wednesday April 26th.  The students will be going to the Dieppe Aquatic Center.  Please ensure that your child has their permission slip signed, has given their $2 to their teacher and on that day that they have brought their bathing suit, cap and towel with them.

This Wednesday April 19th will be the last session for the Grade 4 Art Club after school.

Please check your child’s backpack for a special notice entitled “Fair Notice Policy 722” that was sent home today.

Arnold H. McLeod will be hosting its seventh annual Night of the Arts celebration on Thursday May 4th from 6:00pm until 8:00 pm.  The theme of this year’s event is “A Journey around the World” and it promises to showcase our students’ talents.  The night will include performances by the choirs, dance groups, K Bell Choir and the Glee Club.   There will be refreshments and treats for purchase from the Home and School at the concession stands as well a popcorn fundraiser by the 3-5 Choir for the Humanity Project.  In lieu of admission to the Night of the Arts we are asking for a donation to the AHM Breakfast Program.  Items such as cereal bars, jam, non-sugar and nut free cereal and Cheez Whiz would be very much appreciated.  You will also have the opportunity to purchase any piece of art on display with a donation of your choice to the AHM Arts Fund.  New this year: each child will have a list of their art pieces so that it will be easier to find their work.  Please note that during the presentations in the gym the concession stands and the Art Sale will not occur out of respect for the performers and all of their hard work.

Thanks to all of the parents and guardians who attended and learned along with their children during our student-led conferences.  We love to share with you!

Please note that there will be no school on Friday April 14th and Monday April 17th due to the Easter holiday.  There will also be no school on Friday April 28th due to staff professional learning.

Thank you for your support of the recent Scholastic Book Fair.  The classrooms will benefit from approximately $2 300 in new resources.

AHM Voicemail for Friday March 31st
Our Home & School Committee is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair Monday April 3rd until Thursday April 6th.  Monday to Thursday the fair will run daily from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm.  Thursday evening will be the Family Night from 6pm-8pm.  Kids are welcome to bring money in an envelope or plastic bag to shop during their classroom time in the Library.  For every $10 spent, $7 goes directly back to our school. Teachers will be completing a "Classroom Wish List" which you may use to purchase a specific book for your child's classroom.  Come out and support AHM!!

Report cards were sent home today! Please check your child’s backpack for the envelope and sign and return it to your child’s teacher as soon as possible.

Parent-Teacher Interviews or Student-Led Conferences will be held after school on Thursday April 6th until 6:30 pm and again on Friday April 7th in the morning.  Therefore, there will be no school for students on Friday April 7th.

Next week is the last week for our Pre-K Active Learning Groups.

Yearbook orders are due back to the school by Tuesday March 28th.

Art Club will begin on Wednesday for those students in Grade 4 who have signed up.

Term 2 report cards will be sent home on Friday March 31st.

There will be no school on Friday April 7th due to Parent Teacher Interviews and Staff Professional Learning.

AHM Voicemail for Friday March 17th
We would like to wish the Gr. 3-5 Choir good luck when they perform this Sunday afternoon at 2 pm during the Moncton Miracles game.  We know you will do us proud!

The last week for Mad Science will be this Thursday March 23rd.

Yearbook order forms were sent home earlier this week.  They are due back to the school by Tuesday March 28th.

We are in need of two volunteers to prepare and deliver fluoride on Tuesdays. Please contact the office at 856-3475.

The Grade 1-2 Choir will begin on Monday March 20th at 8:10 am.

Our Pre-K Active Learning Groups will begin this week.  They are held in the school library on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for those who signed up.

The last week of In Motion Wii Dancing in the mornings will take place the first after March Break.

AHM's Paint Nite has been rescheduled for Monday March 13th at 6:30pm - third time’s a charm! We currently have 37 tickets still available for purchase - you can find the link on the school website as well as our AHM home and school Facebook page - please help us make this an amazing event!
 
School will resume for students on Monday March 13th.  The Staff at AHM would like to wish everyone a fantastic March Break.

Next week is Winter Carnival week at AHM!  A bright pink information sheet was sent home this week with a description of each day’s themes.  A copy can also be found on the AHM website.

March Break begins after school on Friday March 3rd.  Students will return to school on Monday March 13th.

AHM Voicemail for Friday February 17th
AHM will be participating in Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday February 22nd.  This is a national anti-bullying campaign.  So be sure to wear your best and brightest pink next Wednesday.

Please note that there will be no school on Friday February 24th due to Professional Learning activities for all staff.

We will once again be holding a Parents & Staff vs Students basketball game on Friday March 3rd from 1:45 – 2:45 pm.  If you are interested in playing in this game, please contact the school at 856-3557.

Grade 5 Badminton Club will begin shortly.  If your child is interested they should listen to the announcements and attend the organizing meeting.

Glee Club begins again Monday after school.

We are certainly feeling the love!  The staff would like to extend a huge thank you for all the treats and special thoughts this past week during Staff Appreciation Week.  AHM is certainly a great place to work.

The AHM Home and School Paint Nite fundraiser will take place on Thursday February 16th at 6:30 pm at the school.

Our Breakfast Program budget is running low.  Any donations of Cheez Whiz during the month of February and March would be greatly appreciated.

AHM is lucky enough once again to have a set of snow scooters on loan.  They were a big hit last year!  Should students wish to use the snow scooters, they are required to bring a helmet from home.
  
AHM would like to extend a warm welcome to Mme Rodot Morellon who will be replacing Mrs. Paquette for the remainder of the year.

There will be a Home and School meeting on Monday February 6th at 6:30 pm in the Library.  All are welcome.

The Home and School will once again be acknowledging the AHM Staff with a Staff Appreciation week from February 13th – 17th.  An information sheet was sent home earlier this week with all of the necessary information.  If you would like to participate, please return the provided envelope by February 9th.

The Welcome to Kindergarten event for our pre-K students will take place on Thursday February 9th from 4-5pm.

The AHM Paint Nite fundraiser has been rescheduled for Thursday February 16th at 6:30 pm. If you are interested in participating there are still tickets left.  Please visit the AHM website and follow the links to register.

Please be advised that if a school is to go into a Hold and Secure or Lockdown situation, the decision will be made by the Office of the Superintendent in consultation with the RCMP.  They will advise us what actions to take and then we in turn will send a voicemail home to inform parents.

AHM Voicemail for Friday January 20th
Please be advised that the Grade 1-2 Choir will resume after March Break on Mondays in preparation for the Night of the Arts performance in May.

Blue Student Profile Sheets were sent home earlier this week.  This sheet provides the school with vital contact information in case of emergencies.  Please review this sheet carefully and update any necessary information.

There are still a few spots left for our Home and School Paint Nite fundraiser to be held on January 26th at 6:30 pm at AHM.  Please visit the AHM website and follow the links to register.  The Home and School Association will receive $15 from each ticket sold.

We are asking parents to take great care on the playground when collecting their children after school.  As with rest of Moncton, we have an unusual amount of ice.  All of our exits and walkways are clear but if you choose to cross the playground on a path other than an official paved walkway you will encounter ice.

AHM Voicemail for Friday January 13th
In Motion mornings with the Wii will begin next week and run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:10 am until 8:30 am.  The students can wait on the playground until the 8:10 am bell when they may enter the school to get their indoor shoes and proceed to the gym.

Our Home and School Association will be hosting a Paint Nite fundraiser on Thursday January 26th at 6:30 pm.  The cost is $45 with $15 going directly to the school.  Please note that this is an adult only event.  To register, please visit the AHM website where you can find a link to purchase tickets.

The cafeteria will resume services this Monday January 16th.

We hope that all of AHM families had a wonderful holiday. Please note that school will resume for students on Tuesday January 10th.  The Breakfast Program will run as usual but the cafeteria will not resume services until next Monday January 16th.

AHM Voicemail for Friday December 16th
Our annual Fill the Bus Campaign continues until Tuesday December 20th.  We are excited because we think we may have a chance to win the district competition again this year. This means a lot of food for families in need.

The last day of school prior to the holiday break will be Friday December 23rd and it is a half day for students with dismissal at 11 am.  If you are coming to pick up your child on that day we would ask that you wait outside until the busses depart.  At that point you are more than welcome to come in to the school and proceed to your child’s classroom to sign them out.  The students will return to school in the new year on Tuesday January 10th.

The turkey dinner will be held on Tuesday December 20th for those students who have placed their orders.  Please note that there will be no other meal offered that day.  The cafeteria will be closed beginning on Wednesday December 21st.  Breakfast Club remains open for the week.

Online program choice registration for the 2017-2018 school year for those students who are currently in Kindergarten, Grades 2 and 5 will end on December 20th.  Please look on the AHM website if you need more information.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of you who supported us during our recent holiday concert and bazaar.  We are so proud of all of the students and their efforts and we thank you for your support.

The Home and School will be hosting its annual Holiday Bazaar this Monday December 12th for students.  All items for sale are $1.00 and children are only permitted to purchase items for those people with whom they live in order to ensure that there are enough items for all of the children.

Our annual Fill the Bus campaign is well under way and the classroom competitions are heating up.  Who will win the special surprise from Mrs. Trueman?  The last day to send in non-perishable food items is Tuesday December 20th.

The last day of school prior to the holiday break will be Friday December 23rd and it is a half day for students. Dismissal is at 11 am for our school. The students will return to school in the new year on Tuesday January 10th.

The AHM Home and School Association will once again be hosting its annual Holiday Bazaar on Monday December 12th.  You may donate new or gently used items at the school.  Items such as Canadian Tire money, gift bags, tape, tags, bows and tissue paper would also be greatly appreciated.  Please note that on the day of the Bazaar your child will only be able to purchase items for those people with whom they live in order for there to be enough items for all of the children.

The annual Arnold H. McLeod Holiday Concert will be held on Thursday December 15th at 9:15 am and again at 12:15 pm.  The storm date will be Friday December 16th.  Tickets for a chance to win front row seating for up to 4 people for the concerts were sent home earlier this week.  It is $2/ticket or 3 for $5.00.  If you would like more tickets, please let your child’s teacher know.

As admission to the concert we are asking for a donation of non-perishable food item for our local food bank as we are participating in Anglophone East’s annual Fill the Bus campaign.  We are also conducting a class competition for the Fill the Bus campaign.  The class from K-2 and 3-5 who collects the most items for the collection will receive a reward from Mrs. Trueman and Mrs. Ward.  The Fill the Bus collection date is Tuesday December 20th.

Our cafeteria will be hosting a Holiday turkey dinner on Tuesday December 20th.  Order forms were sent home earlier this week.  Please return them by Friday December 16th.  Orders can also be placed online.

Parent Teacher Interviews are occurring this evening until 6:30 pm and again tomorrow Friday November 25th in the morning.  We hope that you can make it to the school during this valuable time.

AHM will be participating in the 17th annual Fill the Bus campaign.  The class competition will be held again this year with the K-2 class and the Gr. 3-5 class collecting the most items winning an extra recess.  Items will be collected at the school until Tuesday December 20th.  AHM has won the inter-school competition the last two years by collecting the most items.  Let’s make it a three-peat!

Parents of children in Kindergarten, Grade 2 and Grade 5 are reminded of the online registration process for their choice of program for their child for the 2017-2018 school year.

Parent-Teacher interviews will take place on Thursday November 24th after school and in the evening and Friday November 25th in the morning.  Please note that there will be no school on Friday November 25th.

The Book Fair was once again a great success.  Thank you volunteers, students, parents and staff.  Your support has meant approximately $1 600 in new books and resources for the Library and classrooms.  Students get excited about reading and learning when these are made available.  Lists of the valuable volunteers and contest winners will be posted to the AHM website soon.  Many thanks to all!

The Scholastic Book Fair will be coming to AHM this coming week from Monday November 14th until Thursday November 17th.  The theme of this year’s Book Fair is Pirate Bookaneer and it will run each day from 9 am until 2:30 pm.  Family Night will be Wednesday November 16th from 3:00 until 6:30 pm.

The AHM Home and School will be holding a fall fundraiser.  Orders are due back to the school on Thursday November 17th.  As always we thank you in advance for supporting our Home and School.

AHM will be hosting its 1st annual Spin a Thon Fundraiser in January.  This has been postponed from November due to other current fundraising efforts.

The final session for the Grade 5 Art Club will be this week.  Participants are asked to bring newspapers on Wednesday.

Our annual Remembrance Day Assembly will be held on Thursday November 10th at 10:30 am.  Students who are part of Beavers, Cubs, Brownies and the like are asked to wear their uniforms to the event.  Parents are also welcome to attend.

The final session for the fall session of Mad Science will take place on Thursday November 10th.  Parents are reminded to please wait outside for the dismissal.

Please be advised that AHM students are not to wear their Halloween costumes to school on Monday.
  
AHM will be participating this month in an exciting new adventure with our apple mascot Arnie.  Arnie will be travelling across Canada with the help of our students and our class spin bikes.  We will be hosting a Spin-a-Thon later in the month to raise funds and to see how far we can get Arnie in his Canadian adventure.  Information will be sent home next week.

Please note that there will be no Art Club this week for Grade 5.

Picture retakes will take place on Monday October 24th in the morning.

The Kick Off to Kindergarten event for our pre-K students will occur on Thursday October 27th at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria.

The AHM Home and School Association will be sending information home soon with regards to the annual Holiday Bazaar for students.  Please feel free to begin dropping off donations at the school office.

Please be advised that AHM does not allow students to wear costumes to school for Halloween.  We also follow the Nutrition policy with regards to treats.  If you would like to send something to your child’s class, please ensure that it is a healthy treat.

There will be Home and School meeting on Monday October 17th at 6:30 pm in the Library.  All are welcome.

The Grade 1-2 Choir begins on Monday October 17th in the morning at 8:10 am in Mrs. Trites’ room.  The students may enter the building at the 8:10 am bell.

AHM Voicemail for Friday October 7th
Coding Camp will begin on Tuesday for those students who registered.  It will take place in the Library after school.  Please wait outside the building to collect your child.

Registration for next year’s Kindergarten class will run from October 11th until October 14th for those children who will be turning five by December 31st 2017. Please drop by the school between the hours of 9 am and 3 pm in order to complete the necessary paperwork.

Grade 5 Art Club will begin on Wednesday for those students who signed last week.

We will be having our practice lockdown on Wednesday October 12th.

We are still looking for a second volunteer for the Breakfast Club on Monday and Tuesday mornings from 7:30 am until 8:30 am.


September 30
AHM Voicemail for Friday September 30th
Gymnastics for Grades 3-5 will begin next week.  Consent forms were sent home this past week.

A meeting was held today for all of those students who were interested in attending the Grade 5 Art Club.  Permission slips and the fee, $5.00, are due to Mrs. Ward ASAP.  Space is limited so it is a first come first serve basis.

AHM will be participating in our annual Emergency Evacuation Walk practice on Wednesday October 5th.  We will be walking to the Lewisville Baptist Church.  Last year it took us 26 minutes to get the entire school population to our safety location.

Please note that there will be no school on Thursday October 6th and Friday October 7th due to Professional Learning for staff.  There will also be no school on Monday October 10th due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

We are looking for a second volunteer for the Breakfast Club for Monday and Tuesday mornings.  The hours are 7:30 – 8:30 am.  If you love the smell of toast and butter – this is the job for you!
