January 27, 2017

Hello everyone.  This is Mrs. Godfrey with an update on the situation at Caledonia.

Our internet is up and running and power is being restored to the building as the boilers fire up.  I am on site today with facilities.

A revised exam schedule can be found on our school website.  Basically, in regards to exams, let’s pretend that the last 4 days never happened!  On Monday, January 30th, students will write the exam they were scheduled to write last Tuesday – PreCalc A 120 and NRF 10. Those students who have not yet completed the rewrite of the writing portion of the ELPA are asked to do so on Monday afternoon.  On Tuesday, students will write Foundations 11. On Wednesday, students will write their Biology and Pre Calc B 120 and on Thursday, students will write Human Physiology, Chemistry and Physics.  The exam schedule itself has not changed – only the dates have.  We have one turnaround day scheduled for Friday, February 3rd and the first day of second semester is Monday, February 6th.  Of course, this all depends on the cooperation of the weather and the status of our communities.

There is no cafeteria service on Monday, January 30th.

I hope you are now with power or that it will be restored to your household very soon.  If you need anything at the school, please don’t hesitate to make contact with me at home or if I can be of any help to you, please let me know.

Thank you very much.

Today is Monday, January 23rd and this is Mrs. Godfrey with a few messages from Caledonia.

This is exam week for High School students.  In the event of a school cancellation, the exam schedule will advance by one day.  For example, if school were cancelled on Wednesday, Wednesday’s exams would be written on Thursday and Thursday’s exams would be written on Friday.  Friday’s exams would be moved to Monday.  Currently, Monday and Tuesday – January 30th and 31st – are designated as High School “Turnaround” days and there is no school for High School students on these two days.

The Grade 6 students are beginning their Heritage Fair projects this week with a group of teachers interested in celebrating 150 years of our provincial heritage with the students.  There will be some terrific projects planned so stay tuned.

Thank you for listening.

Today is Friday, January 13th and this is Mrs. Godfrey.

Next week is review week for high school students.  Exam week is scheduled from Monday, January 23rd through Friday, January 27th for high school students only.  The exam schedule is posted on our website.  Attendance exemption forms are completed by applying students and subject teachers.  All forms are submitted to me at the office by subject teachers by Wednesday, January 18th at the end of the day.  Applicants will be notified on Friday.  Students who have missed fewer than 5 classes in a certain subject and who have maintained an average of 75% or above in that subject may apply for an attendance exemption for one of their courses.

Please stay to the right when entering our school parking lot.  We have received reports of drivers not doing this and it is a safety concern.

If you or someone you know could help us out with coaching our Middle School Boys Basketball Team, it would be greatly appreciated.  We have a wonderful group of Middle School boys who really want to play basketball and we are looking for someone to volunteer to coach them.  If this is something you think you could do, please contact me at the school.

Thank you.  Have a wonderful weekend.

December 20
December 20, 2016

Today is Tuesday, December 20th and this is Mrs. Godfrey with a few messages from Caledonia.

Thanks is extended to our Caledonia family for supporting our annual Fill the Bus Campaign!  Our students did a super job collecting non-perishable food items for a worthy cause.  Special thanks to students in Mrs. Dixon-Lipton’s grade 9 homeroom who took this contest very seriously, worked together and brought in the most items per student.

Caledonia is proud to announce a new school activity called The Imagine League. Two amazing mystery projects will be created by middle school students and high school students.  If you like to create, draw, act, invent, construct, design or paint – this is the club for you.  Listen to the announcements after the Christmas break for club meeting times which will be at noon. It’s going to be a crazy busy and fun activity for the next 6 months!  If you would like to sign up now, see Mrs. Robertson in the Art room.  There is limited enrolment in each club.

The fifth edition of the Caledonia Classics Cookbook is available for purchase.  Get your cookbooks at the office for $10 ($8 if you submitted a recipe).   They make wonderful presents.

If you would like to attend a Wildcat Hockey Game at the Moncton Coliseum, I have several discounted coupons available for games on December 30th, December 31st and January 3rd.  If you contact Wendy at the office, she will send coupons home with your son/daughter before the break.  With each coupon, you can purchase a student ticket for $5  or one adult ticket @ $12.25. If you are a hockey fan, this is a 40% savings off the regular ticket price.

Finally, this Friday, December 23rd will be a half day for students and staff. The buses will arrive to take students home at 11:30 am.  Students return to school on Tuesday, January 10th, 2017.

On behalf of the staff of Caledonia, I would like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas.  We look forward to working with you again in 2017.

Have a good evening everyone.

Today is Friday, December 9th and this is Mrs. Godfrey with a few messages from Caledonia.

Middle School students – students in grades 6, 7 and 8 - will receive their Term 1 report card at the end of the day today.

This report card will look much different than it has in the past.  The information provided by subject teachers is detailed and curriculum specific.

With the report card, will be information on learning habits and on the grading system itself. An assessment of a 3 indicates grade level understanding and application.

The 3 page report card is yours to keep at home.

There is a response page that we ask you send back to your son/daughter’s homeroom teacher. On this response page, we are asking for your child’s reflections on his/her learning.  He/she can also set educational goals for the upcoming term.  Parents, there is a section for your comments as well.  I would encourage you to comment on your child’s achievement, suggest ways we can assist your child in his/her learning, and ask any questions you may have about your child’s educational program.  There is a space for a student and parent signature.  Please complete the response page, sign, date and return to your son/daughter’s homeroom teacher in the envelope provided.

Thank you for listening.  Have a wonderful weekend.  If I can provide you with any additional information on this new provincial grading and reporting system, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Good afternoon everyone.  Today is Wednesday, June 1st and this is Mrs. Godfrey with a few messages from Caledonia.
Please join us this evening for a talk about social media awareness.  Retired RCMP officer, Bryan Butler will join us in the gym for an informative discussion about a topic we all need to be aware of.  If your son or daughter has use of a cell phone, this is a session you will not want to miss.  We begin at 6:30 in the gym.

Following the Garden Party, there will be a meeting to provide parents and students with information about Prom and Safe Grad 2016.  The meeting will be in the Library.
Graduation information letters were sent home with potential graduates earlier this week.  The letter is also copied on our school website.  Copies can be picked up at the office.
