January 31
student fees and kiss/ride

On Friday, February 1st, Evergreen Park School will be hosting an exhibition girls basketball game between BMHS and Caledonia.  Moncton Magic players will be on hand for the event.  This a reward that was earned during the Walkathon for their fundraising efforts.  Students are asked to wear green in order to support both EPS and BMHS.  The Alphastars will be around to paint two simple green stripes on the faces of any students who would like to participate.  If allergies are a concern with the face paint, please send a note with your child.

As you know, EPS is having concerns with its student Kiss and Ride area.  EPS, in conjunction with ASD-E, the local RCMP and the City of Moncton, have been fielding complaints regarding student safety, congestion, and trespassing in neighbouring driveways.  Here are the suggestions.

More supervision will be added to the area in order to facilitate with a quicker and safer student dropoff.  This will be effective Monday, February 4th.  In light of this, EPS is asking for parent volunteers to work in tandem with EPS admin, teachers, and EAs in one-week increments from 7:40-8:00 am.  Please leave your name and contact info with the main office (856-3476) if you are available to help out.

Parents are asked to remain in their vehicles and have their children’s belonging handy in order to speed up the line.  We are hoping to have multiple vehicles unloading at the same time.  It is also important that all vehicles advance to where an adult can help your child exit the vehicle.

Finally, parents are reminded that the students are to be in the building by 8:00am.  This may mean leaving home a little earlier.  We are currently averaging 75 late students per day.  That translates into about 10% of our student population being late on a daily basis.  This not only congests the main office but also disrupts the learning environment.

parent/teacher re PODS

The POD system at Evergreen Park this year has resulted in many changes. Parent/teacher interviews will also be changing format this year to allow teachers to meet with as many parents as possible during the two sessions which are scheduled for Thursday 5:30 to 7:30pm and Friday 8:30 to 11:30am.

Please check with your child to determine which teacher of each subject they have seen the MOST often this term. Pod teachers will be assembled in the cafeteria by teams so that you can find them easily.  Each teacher will have a separate area to meet with the parents. You are asked to line up to meet with the teachers you wish to see in order of priority. Parents, guardians and any students attending are asked to wait a few feet back from the chairs in front of each teacher’s spot for confidentiality purposes.

Once you have finished visiting with one teacher, simply move to the line of the next teacher and so on. All teachers for that subject matter will be in close proximity should any questions arise.

Please note that if you need to speak to any teacher for a prolonged period of time, appointments may be set up at this time for other dates. We appreciate your support as we try to address any concerns in a timely manner. This format is used at many of the local high schools where parents need to meet with multiple subject teachers instead of just one classroom.

The EPS POD team thanks you for your support.

Have a nice evening.

Good Evening EPS Community Re:  L.L.

Good Evening EPS Community,

This is Antigone Panagiotakis, Principal of Evergreen Park School.  I am saddened to inform you that over the weekend our school community has experienced the death of one of our staff members, Mrs. Liza Luddington, Educational  Assistant in one of our grade two classrooms.

As a loss of this nature can have an impact on many in our school community, we have implemented a plan for responding to this situation and helping our students and staff who may be impacted.  Our staff has been briefed and have been given guidelines on discussing the incident and understanding reactions to it.  At school on Tuesday, we will maintain as normal a routine as the situation allows and encourage you to do the same.

If you have any concerns or if you feel that your child needs assistance, please let us know and we will ensure your child sees a counsellor.

Thank you and have a pleasant evening.

Tuesday, May 22, 2018

This is your school connects message for 22 May 2018. HELLO, THIS IS Marium A GRADE 5 student at EPS. I am spreading awareness about how dangerous batteries can be if thrown in the trash. As we all know batteries are a part of our daily life, but they can be very dangerous to us and our environment if not disposed properly. They can cause landfill fires that burn ubderground for years and pollute our water and soil. In humans it can cause problems in the reproductive system and cancer. They take 100 years or more to decompose if not recycled. There will be a bocx in the front office here at EPS until 01 June where you can put all of your used batteries. Every battery you put in will help rebuild our environment.

Thank You,

As a school we take our students' safety very seriously. As such, we want to inform you that we will be practicing our lockdown procedures on Monday, March 19th at 9:00 a.m. The RCMP will be at the school to observe our drill and will provide us with feedback so that we can improve our practice.

``A lockdown occurs when there is an extreme situation such as a school intruder, or an immediate threat to the safety of staff and students, that would make it dangerous for students and staff to leave or circulate throughout the building.``

Thank you for your support as we endeavor to keep our students and staff safe at EPS.

Student-led conferences will take place on Thursday, April 12th from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and will resume on Friday, April 13th from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. We would love to see you attend either of these sessions and enjoy watching your child talk about their work habits, showcase their portfolios and share activities they have done in the classroom.

February 26
Monday, February 26th, 2018

This is your school connects message for 26 February 2018.

Teachers and Staff of Evergreen Park School would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Home and School, Parents and Volunteers for the lovely luncheon provided last Thursday. The meal was excellent. Thank You!

On Wednesday February 28, Evergreen Park School will engage in a special Random Acts of Kindness Day to celebrate the life of Becca Schofield, the 18 year old Riverview teen who recently passed away from cancer. As we all know, even though she was seriously ill, Becca's one wish was to encourage people to be kind to one another. To that end, Grade 8 Alphastars along with students in Mrs. Brussard's Grade 6 class, will work together to create and present information to all EPS students about Becca and the concept of Random Acts of Kindness. The objective is to foster empathy and kindness within our students and provide them with opportunities to discover how wonderful it feels to be kind to others. Please join in us in celebrating Becca's life by discussing kindness with your child and brainstorming different ways to be kind. Then, on Wednesday February 28, please take part by making your family's day about being especially kind to one another. On Thursday March 1, the Alphastars and Grade 6 students will return to each EPS classroom to determine the total Random Acts of Kindness committed by EPS students, both inside and outside of school. Thank you for your help with this really important day.  Have a great Random Acts of Kindness Day on Wednesday February 28!

The bus area off of Evergreen Drive is for school buses and daycare vans ONLY.  The Kiss and Ride is reserved in the morning for moving traffic. Please drive up as far as the cafeteria doors before allowing your child to disembark. Students should exit the vehicles from the passenger side only. Please do not passother vehicles when dropping off students. We appreciate  your cooperation in this matter. These guidelines will keep our students safe.

Also, please note, use of the parking lot as a drop off zone is discouraged as it is not set up to accommodate the high volume of traffic, which makes it unsafe for both students and staff.  If however you still decide to drop your child off in the parking lot, you must park your vehicle and then walk your child to their designated playground. Please help us in ensuring the safety of your children and our students.

Thursday is Pajama Day here at EPS. Students are invited to give $1.00 to their homeroom teacher and wear their pajamas to school.

Thank You.  Enjoy your evening.

The week of February 17th is Staff appreciation week and the home and school will be providing a potluck on Thursday, February 22nd for all staff.  A notice will be sent home on Monday with more information concerning volunteering to help or provide food for the staff potluck.  Your EPS Home and School would like to thank you in advance for your support!

This last announcement is for all Kindergarten parents.  Forms were sent home regarding program choices for your child for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year.  Please be advised that next year will be the last year for our grade 3 French Immersion entry as this was grandfathered out when the Grade 1 entry level was introduced.  So if you select English for your child for Grade 1 thinking you could choose Grade 3 entry we would like to inform you that this will not be possible.  The next entry level would be grade 6 late Immersion.  If you have chosen the English program and would now like to change your mind it is not too late to do so.  Just let the kindergarten teacher or office know of your decision and the necessary changes will be made.

Those are your talk mail messages for today.  Thank you and have a wonderful weekend
