Spring Fair - call for more volunteers

Frank L. Bowser School

Spring Fair - Saturday, May 13, 10 a.m. – 1 p. m.

Hello Frank L. Bowser Families,

Home and School Executive Team is busy planning the final details for one of the best FLB events of the year – Spring Fair. Thanks to those of you who have offered some time to volunteer at the fair.  It takes many hands to run this family event and more volunteers are needed.  You do not need to volunteer for the whole day, even just a 30 minute shift at a booth can help a GREAT deal.

There is also a need for cakes for the cake walk.  These can be dropped off at the school on May 12th. Your assistance at the Spring Fair will help us ensure this event is a success.

Please send us an email at franklhomeandschool@gmail.com or send a note in to the school.

Thank you

Home and School Executive

Popcorn orders tomorrow and other items to note - Nov, 29/16

Hello Frank L. Bowser Families,

Thank you to all those who attended parent teacher meetings last week. This is a three-way relationship between you, your child and their teacher and by working together positively we can help your child achieve their full potential. The teachers consider themselves very fortunate to have such supportive parents.

Remember to bring your Looney for popcorn tomorrow.  If you are purchasing popcorn you will need your Looney to place your order tomorrow and the popcorn will be served on Thursday.

Also, tomorrow at 6:00pm is the deadline to order Chicken Pies. This is a Grade 5 fundraiser in support of their yearend trip to Camp Wildwood. Orders can be placed using the school cash online payment system. The Grade 5 students thank you in advance for your support.

Please be on the look-out for the second Santa's Gift Mart notice that will be going home tomorrow. If you are able to volunteer for this event please complete and return the bottom portion of the notice. Thank you to those who have already sent in items for the sale. Your generosity is what makes this such a successful Christmas shopping experience for our students.

Thank you and have a great evening.

Calling all Kindergarten students entering school next Sept.

Notice to all parents/guardians,

We are asking for your assistance in indentifying any potential Frank L. Bowser Pre-Kindergarten students.  You can help by letting everyone in your neighbourhood know that Kindergarten registration for children born in 2012, is now taking place at Frank L. Bowser School.  We want to make every effort to get this information out to all our potential Frank L. Bowser families so they may benefit from all of the transition to kindergarten sessions (beginning with our Kick-off to Kindergarten Parent Information Night on October 27th at 4:00 pm).   If you know of any children, in the Frank L. Bowser community that should be registered for the 2017-2018 school year, would you please pass this information on and encourage them to stop by the school to register their child as soon as possible. We look forward to hearing from them.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Important information re- Christmas Concert, Fill The Bus food drive, and Papa John's Family Pizza Night

Talk mail sent Dec. 15th, 2015

Dear Parents,
Important information regarding the Christmas Concert
We look forward to putting on our best performance for you at our Annual Frank L. Bowser Christmas Concerts tomorrow.
The front doors will be open at 12:00 noon for the afternoon concert which begins at 12:20 and again at 6:00 p.m. for the evening concert which begins at 6:30. There is no cover charge for the concert however; there will be a donation box at the entrance to the gym.  All proceeds from your donations will go towards the development of our Art and Music Programs
Parents, do not forget your concert tickets at home! You will need them to get into the concert. Due to the high demand for tickets and the limited seating capacity we ask that you be respectful of this policy.  If you have tickets you are not using, would you kindly return them to the office so we can redistribute them. We still have a waiting list of people looking for evening concert tickets.
For the evening concert, children may be dropped off at the school at 6:10 p.m. Parent volunteers will be available in the Kiss and Drop zone if you wish to drop your child off, then go to park. The children will go directly to their classrooms while they wait to perform. They may be picked up in their classrooms after the concert (approx. 7:45 p.m.).
Thank you for making this a special time for all!
2) Don’t forget that tomorrow evening is Papa John’s family pizza Night. This could be an easy way to feed you family on concert night. Five dollars from your order goes to the school if you tell them you are from FLB and order the special.
3) Tomorrow is the last day for the “fill the bus campaign”. Please drop-off or send in any non-perishable food items to the front office. The bus will be along to pick up our donations tomorrow morning.
Thank you for your contribution to this worthy cause.

Popcorn Sale- bring your $1.00 tomorrow and Home & School/PSSC Elections on Thur. Sept 24th at 6:30 pm.

Hello Frank L. Bowser Families,

This is just a friendly reminder to bring your Looney tomorrow if you plan to order popcorn. The popcorn order is placed on Wednesday and students receive their popcorn Thursday morning. A portion of the money raised this month will be used to help our school meet our 2015-2016 goal of $700.00 for our FLB Terry Fox run for cancer research.
Also, don't forget about our Home and School public meeting and PSSC elections to be held this Thursday evening (Sept. 24th) at 6:30 pm.  The front doors of the school will be open at 6:15 pm for a meet and greet and the meeting will be held in the conference room across from the office. If you are thinking about volunteering as a parent member for one of our PSSC vacancies, don’t hesitate to stop by the office to pick up a nomination form and/or to ask for more information. We currently have two spots available to fill our compliment of positions on the PSSC. There are no special skills or experience needed. It is a great way to get involved, to impact change and to take part in school improvement planning.

Meet the Teacher Night - September 16th, 2015

Hello Frank L. Bowser Parents.
Our Frank L. Bowser Curriculum and Meet the Teacher Night will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 16th at 6:30 pm. in the gymnasium of the school. You will also have a chance to meet the Frank L. Bowser Home and School executive and the returning PSSC members.
The format of the evening will have a slight change from previous years in that there will not be a Home and School business meeting. The Home and School will host their first public meeting on Thursday, Sept. 24th at 6:30 pm.  All are welcome to attend. The PSSC elections for this school year will be held at the Home and School public meeting rather than at Meet the Teacher Night.
We are seeking nominations to fill positions on our PSSC. If you are considering this valuable opportunity and would like more information on the role of the PSSC, please do not hesitate to contact me and I would be happy to discuss this with you.
Hot Lunch Tickets and Milk tickets will be on sale at the front entrance of the school before and after you meet your child’s teacher on Sept 16th.  A friendly reminder that we do not accept cheques at FLB School, tickets are on sale for cash only. The preferred method of payment is through the School Cash Online service.
Small tickets cost $3.00each or $30.00 per sheet (11 tickets for the price of 10).
Large tickets cost $3.75 each or $37.50 per sheet (11 tickets for the price of 10).
The Home and School executive will also be selling memberships at the entrance to the gymnasium (cash only transactions). The cost is $7.00 for a single membership and $10.00 for a family. Payment for memberships may also be done using the School Cash online service.
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday evening!

Hello Frank L. Bowser Families,
We have a very busy week ahead. Below are a few important items and dates to note as we go into the Easter long weekend.
1) The Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cake Fundraiser is back by popular demand. Be on the look-out for details in your child’s agenda or mail bag. More details to follow.
2) Report Cards were sent home on Friday. We hope you have had an opportunity to review the comments with your child, celebrate their progress and help them to set goals for the third and final term of this school year. Please sign and return the envelope. If you have any questions or concerns, your child’s teacher will be more than happy to discuss them with you. Your support and encouragement are very much appreciated and are critical to your child’s success.
3) Show and Share – student led conferences will be held on the evening of Wednesday, April 1st and the morning of Thursday, April 2nd. This is an opportunity for your child to share some of their work and/or demonstrate some of their learning skills and strategies. We ask that you return the appointment notice for the show and share conference with your child. If you have not yet made arrangements for an appointment, contact your child’s teacher.
4) There is no school for students on Thursday, April 2nd, due to the student-led conferences in the morning and professional development for teachers in the afternoon.
5) Wednesday, April 1st is our Hop-a-Thon for Muscular Dystrophy. Rather than collecting sponsors, we are encouraging all student to bring a Toonie to school on Wednesday to support this deserving cause. We appreciate your support as we continue to work to teach our students the importance of caring for others and making a positive change in our community. Thank you to our Home and School Association for donating the sales from last week’s popcorn day to the Hop-A-Thon for Muscular Dystrophy.
6) Frank L. Bowser Staff and Students will be dressing in blue to show their support for World Autism Awareness Day on Wednesday, April 1st. In an effort to raise awareness and educate others, students will be reading facts about autism in the morning announcements.  Don’t forget to wear something blue.

A group of FLB Choir students will be accompanied by some In- Harmony students under the direction of Mrs. Delaney. In an effort to make a positive change with positive actions, students continue to fill our Kindness Tree with snowflakes that record their random acts of kindness. Every student has added a link to the “FLB Friendship Chain” with their ideas of what makes a good friend.

3) Our Healthy Minds Luncheon is this Friday. A free lunch will be provided to all students on February 27th. The lunch will include a SUBWAY ham and cheese sandwich with lettuce, tomato and cucumber, (Mustard and Mayo on the side), an apple and a choice of white or chocolate 1% milk. Family Literacy Day Activities -Tuesday, Jan. 27th 2015

Hello Frank L. Bowser Families,
Tomorrow is National Family Literacy Day. We will be celebrating at Frank L. Bowser tomorrow January 27th with a book sale. Students are invited to dress up as their favourite storybook character and/or bring their favourite book to share with a friend. In the event of school cancellation due to the pending storm, we will celebrate the following day.

Also, don’t forget your money for the book sale. We have received a great selection of donated books for all grade levels. Classes will be visiting the book fair in the morning. All books are on sale for a dollar each.
Thank you to all who donated books and to the volunteers who help with the sale.

Family Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative held to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. Just 15 minutes a day can improve a child’s literacy skills dramatically. If you are looking for fun ways to engage your child in Literacy activities, see the attached documents and check out the ABC Life Literacy website at; www.abclifeliteracy.ca

Thank You and Next Home and School Meeting date
Dear Frank L. Bowser families,

The Home and School Association would like to thank the families of FLB for a wonderful Santa's Gift Mart. It was difficult to tell who was having more fun - the children or the volunteers! We hope that the gifts your children selected will bring a smile to your face. This event is successful every year because of the donations from Frank L. families. Thank you for sending in items to be purchased and supplies for wrapping. Thank you to those volunteers who came on Tuesday to set up and on Wednesday to help with the sale. We appreciate your time and efforts so very much. Thank you to the teachers, administrators and staff who collaborate to help make this event successful. This event raised over $2300 for the Home and School Association, but more importantly, it brought our school community together in a special way.

Our next meeting will be on January 14th at 6:30 in the conference room. Please join us to help plan Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week.
