Fish Friends

On Monday April 01, 2019, Havelock School will be receiving this year’s salmon eggs.  The eggs are housed in a cooled water tank, duplicating the water temperature of local streams. As the outdoor water temperature increases, we adjust accordingly so when the newly hatched salmon are released in late May/Early June, they have a smooth transition to their natural habitat. Special thanks to Sterling Goddard, Fish Friends Chairman and The New Brunswick Wild Life Federation, for making this opportunity possible.

GOLF!

Learn to Play Program

We are pleased to offer again this summer our “Learn to Play “program.  This is a structured program that teaches children the basics of golf while moving from station to station over 20 minute intervals.  The children will be grouped by age and all drills are supervised by volunteers, parents are always welcome and we appreciate help in that area.  Children must be 6 years of age or older at the time of registration.  In the past we have accepted children younger only IF a parent or guardian is present at all times.  The dates for registration for the program are Tuesday June 12 and Tuesday June 19 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm, at the Petitcodiac Valley  Golf and Country Club clubhouse.  The first night of the Learn to Play program is  June 26 at 5:15pm  and  runs until 6:30pm.  The cost for this program is only $40.00 for the entire summer.

Glen Cooper Memorial Bursary

This year we are pleased to offer the Glen Cooper Memorial Bursary.  This bursary program offers seven-$100 dollar awards to young juniors towards their full season membership.  Juniors are asked to complete the application form and forward it to the clubhouse no later than June 15, 2018.  If you are chosen for this bursary and  if you have already paid your full season junior membership, you will receive $100.00 back, if you have not paid or joined for the full season you will receive $100.00 off the full junior membership.

Tuesday Mornings With John Lawson

Once again we are pleased to announce that CPGA teaching professional John Lawson will be joining the juniors on Tuesday mornings.  This will start on June 26 and end August 28, 2018.  John will be teaching the juniors from 9am-12pm.  This program is free of charge to all juniors with a fully paid membership.  We hope to see as many juniors as possible take advantage of this wonderful learning opportunity.

Application forms for the Learn to Play Program and the Glen Cooper Memorial Bursary are available at the PVGCC clubhouse 756-8129, or can be printed off our website.

English Literacy Assessment at Grade 2

May 22 – June 1, 2018

The Grade 2 English Literacy Assessment is an assessment of students’ literacy skills based on the Atlantic Canada English Language Arts Curriculum Outcomes (Grade 2) and the New Brunswick Provincial Reading Achievement Standards (End of Grade 2). Data obtained from this assessment provides information about individual student achievement and offers a perspective on literacy achievement trends at the school, district and provincial levels.

What is the Grade 2 English Literacy Assessment?

This assessment is an important component of New Brunswick’s early literacy initiative. It supports the provincial commitment that students are able to read and comprehend at an expected level by the end of Grade 2.

Do all Grade 2 students take part?

Almost all Grade 2 students will participate except for those whose Personalized Learning Plan justifies an exemption from the assessment.

What does the assessment look like?

Students read several short passages, appropriate to Grade 2, and answer multiple choice questions that assess their reading comprehension.

How long does the assessment take?

The assessment takes 90-minutes which is broken into smaller, flexible sessions. Your child’s teacher plans an appropriate schedule and decides when these sessions will occur.

Who marks the students’ work?

The reading assessment is electronically scanned.

How are results reported?

Results will be reported at the provincial, district, and school level in the fall of 2018.

Grade 4 Provincial Assessment

The Grade 4 Provincial Assessment is part of the New Brunswick’s Provincial Assessment Program.

It measures students’ performance in three Grade 4 subjects. The assessment will be completed from

May 22 to June 1, 2018. Information from this assessment is used to track progress in educational

programs over time.

Do all Grade 4 students take part

in the assessment?

This assessment is intended to be as

inclusive as possible. All Grade 4

students participate except those whose

Personalized Learning Plan indicates

they should be exempted. A variety of

accommodations for this assessment

are available to all students.

What results are available from the

Grade 4 Provincial Assessment?

Results are reported by school, by district

and by the province. Results are

mainly used to inform decisions at the

district and provincial levels.

Individual student results are

not available because each student

only completes one quarter of the full

assessment. School and district results will

be reported in the Fall of 2018.
