It is hard
to believe that it is already the month of May!
With the nicer weather and more daylight hours, it is important to keep
routines in place, including completing homework and bedtimes. This will help students be more successful at
school as they complete daily learning tasks.
As a follow up to the spring fundraiser organized
by our Home and School Association, we are happy to let you know that students
raised approximately $1000 by reading and getting sponsors. The Home and School
will use these funds to help with school agenda costs. A big thank you to our Home and School
Association and to all those who took part as readers and sponsors! The Home and School Association always
welcomes new members! The next meeting is May 30th at 6pm.
This month our school will be taking part in a
provincial wellness survey. This survey
is completed by all schools in the province.
It surveys attitudes and behaviours regarding
healthy eating, mental fitness, bullying, physical activity and tobacco use. We
will be completing the elementary portion of the survey which gathers
information from students in grades
4 and 5 and parents/guardians of
students in grades K to 5. This will be done during the week of May 15th. Participation is anonymous and the
information is kept confidential. Information from the
survey has been used for planning by school districts and has also been used by
other government departments to develop strategies and programs, as well as by
local groups to support healthier communities. If you have questions about the
survey, please let me know.
One final note, the warmer weather is coming which means
summer attire. Flip flops are not
appropriate outdoor footwear at school.
The play area is uneven in places and we often use the field for outdoor
gym classes where shoes with support are needed.
Allergy Alert – Please remember, HES is a nut
free school as we have some students with severe allergies to nuts.
Thank you for helping ensure our students are safe by not sending food with
