Our next Home and School Meeting will be on the 16th in the Library with a 6:30 start time.

Kindergarten Registration for 2019-2020 is beginning next week. This can be done on-line and in person at the school office. This is for children who will be 5 on or before December 31st of 2019. Note registration is open at Magnetic Hill for students who will reside in our catchment area in September of 2019.
ASD East is looking for spare bus drivers and the information can be found on their website!

The Home and School QSP fundraiser kick off was on Friday and information has been sent home with students. Any orders that are processed will receive a coupon from Sky Zone Trampoline Park.

News for the week of October 1-5

Dear Magnetic Hill School Families

It is hard to believe we are already at the end of the month.

I have a few items to share before we start the week:

There will be a parent meeting on Monday October 1st at 6 p.m. regarding fundraising for the year end trip to Quebec.

I have attached a copy of the GUIDANCE NEWSLETTER from Mrs. Baker, our school guidance counsellor.

Tickets for the corn maze are still available at the office and online through school cash.

Our QSP fall fundraiser magazine and cookie dough campaign kicks off on Friday October 5th.

October 8th is Thanksgiving Monday and there are no classes for students.

Our next PSSC meeting is on October 9th.
The next Home and School Meeting is on October 16th.
The Home and School Facebook page can be found at

I am passing on a message from Mrs. Curry about a need in our Broad Based (BBT) Technology department at the school….
The Middle School Technology program at our school is looking for any functioning sewing machines to teach our students basic sewing skills.  We currently have 4, but with some classes being as large as 26 students, we could certainly use more. If you have a portable sewing machine somewhere and that you no longer use or need, we would gladly take it off your hands. Please contact Mrs. Curry or Mr. Smith if you can help out.

Teacher emails can be found on the school website by clicking on:

then the “about us” tab, and “school staff directory”.

A final note, Monday is DAY 02

Thank you,

Mr. Smith and Staff

Week of September 24-28
Dear Magnetic Hill Families.

We are now well into the swing of things at the school.

Picture day was last week and we hope to have the proofs soon. There will be a re-take day for students who were absent or whose proofs need re-done.

Our initial PSSC and Home and School meetings will be taking place this week. This is a joint meeting and will take place in the cafeteria at 6:30 on Tuesday.

An updated cafeteria menu was sent out last week and can now be ordered on line. Please consider online ordering as it allows Mrs. Gass a better idea of what she needs to get ready each day. Thank you.

September 30th is National Orange Shirt day in recognition of reconciliation for First Nations and residential schooling. The website is for more information.

Below is information about a new partnership between Magnetic Hill School and the Salisbury Corn Maze.

Salisbury Corn Maze Tickets

Magnetic Hill Families can enjoy the Salisbury Corn Maze and support our school.

Starting this weekend you can order your tickets for the Salisbury Corn Maze through Magnetic Hill School. You can do this by using School Cash on line, print the confirmation and have your child show this at the office and pick up your tickets. Or, you can purchase them directly at the Office.
Regular Admission tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students under the age of 13, with children under 3 being free.

For every ticket sold Magnetic Hill School will receive $3 towards year end trips and events at Magnetic Hill School. Tickets will be available until the end of the season at the Corn Maze, which is October 28th.
For more information you can visit their site at .

Have a great week everyone!

A New Week on the Hill

Dear Magnetic Hill Families

Thank you for all of your support during our opening week.
Now that things have settled we can begin go get into a routine at the school.
A few items to share to start the week.
Please be sure to sign up for safe arrival if you have not already done so.
As reminder that School Cash is the portal to allow you to sign off on school forms and save on them coming home with your child.
When using the Kiss and Drop the goal is to have traffic flow as quickly as possible. Please help us by ensuring your time dropping is as efficient as possible. Having your child ready to go will help keep the traffic flowing smooth.
Next week we will be introducing our fire alarm and evacuation procedures. These are drills and your children are not in a threatening situation.
“Beccatoldmeto” day is September 16th. This will be a theme at the school all week encouraging students to perform random acts of kindness.
Our cafeteria and breakfast club resume this week. Our cafeteria manager is Tammy Gass and we hope to have a menu to send home soon.
We will be stressing two school expectations with students over the next while, removal of hats when entering and the building and cell phones. Hats are to be removed upon entry into the building by students and adults alike. Although we realize some students need to have a phone for communication purposes with parents they are to remain in the locker. They are not to have cell phones visible at school or be used to play games at recess or noon hour. Visible phones will be held at the office until the end of the day for the first offence and kept overnight if it occurs again. Thank you for your support.
The Meet the Teacher night is on September 19th and we will have our first home and school and PSSC meetings shortly afterwards.
The library is open and we will have our first scholastic book fair next week.

Have a super week!
Mr. Smith and staff.

Getting ready to head back

Dear Magnetic Hill Families:

The clock is ticking and we are less than 48 hours away from the start of the school year. It has been a busy time at our school. Our new flashing lights have been installed in front of Magnetic Hill and we have had extensive washroom renovations done at the school.

On behalf of myself, and the entire staff of Magnetic Hill School, we would like to welcome you and your children to our school community and extend sincere wishes for a successful academic year.

There will be many exciting things happening at the school this year. We hope to keep you informed every step of the way. We encourage you to use on line banking with school cash net as often as possible to pay for fees and school related expenses. New this year will be an automated safe arrival system for all students. You can sign up for this on the ASD-E website. This can be accessed online, by phone or on your mobile device.

There have been changes to the nutrition policy, 711 that will impact our cafeteria. As a result we do not have a menu to share with you at this time. The breakfast club and hot lunch program will start next week. We are looking for volunteers who would be interested in helping out with the breakfast club. Please contact us at the school if you are interested in helping out.

On our school website ( under the documents section we have uploaded the following items for you to review. An article on Allergies, Our behavior matrix (MAGS), Our new Bell Schedule, Bus Rules, Cancellation Notification form, Our Code of Conduct, our Extra-Curricular Code of Conduct, Kiss and Drop Procedures, Menu ideas for children with Allergies, Dealing with a Picky Eater, School Lunch order form & Step by Step handout to sign up for School Cash on line.
Once you have signed up to school cash online you can access and sign off on the Media, Computer Use, Fair Notice, Lock Down-Hold and Secure forms, and Bus Safety forms.  The goal is to have parents do as much on line as possible to reduce paper use.

Once the year has begun we will be holding our Meet the Teacher Nights on September 19th.  Home and School and Parent School Support Committee event dates will follow.

We look forward to the 2018-2019 academic year and wish everyone success in this endeavor.

A final note, Mr. Smith is being interviewed on Tuesday morning at 7:15 on CBC Information morning about our new 2-3-4 English flexible grouping class and our new flashing speed limit lights.

Have a great rest of the weekend.
Your school administration team at Magnetic Hill School,

Mr. N. Smith    &     Mr. C. Murray

Kiss and Drop

Good evening Magnetic Hill School families, hope you all had a fantastic summer!

With School beginning next Tuesday we wanted to send out a reminder of how our Kiss and Drop functions. We will have several extra staff for the first few days to get things up and running.

-          There are two lanes divided by concrete barricades.  Inside lane (closest to the sidewalk) is a bus lane only and is not to be used at any time.  Outside lane is to be used for Kiss and drop.

-          There are two marked crosswalks that are to be used for student drop-off.  Students get out of their car on their own but only at the crosswalks (Please don’t let your child out early and have them walk down the barricade to the crosswalk)

-          There will staff on duty to monitor students using the crosswalks and watch for busses entering and leaving the bus lane.  However, please remind your children to look before crossing the bus lane.

-          Once your child has crossed been dropped off please be patient as the line moves quite quickly.  DO NOT pass another vehicle in the Kiss & Drop lane.  This happened numerous times last year. Please report any vehicle that does this to School Administration as its puts students at risk.

-          Please ensure your child is prepared (jacket on, book bag nearby etc.) in order to speed up the process. Having your child sit on the right hand side also helps.

-          Please move up to the furthest crosswalk to enable more vehicles into the slip.

-          Parking is very limited in the morning with staff and volunteers so please use this system each morning.

Thanks again for your cooperation and patience.  We know how important each and every one of your children are, as is student safety for our staff.

Mr. Smith, Mr. Smith and Staff

Pre-opening News

Dear Magnetic Hill Parents.

The new school year will soon be upon us.
Our office reopens on Monday August 27th. Classes for students resume on Tuesday September 4th.
Please note the information on the ASD-East website regarding safe arrival and absence. Starting in the New Year this automated program will take over the absence reporting. Please refer to the ASD-E website for more information.
Additionally we will be moving to an electronic form format. There is a tab on the ASD website for forms and school cash. You do not need to give access to accounts to use School Cash for forms.
Lastly, our grade 2-3-4 English Classes are embarking on an exciting new educational journey. I am including a brief message about the changes.

Dear Grade 2, 3, 4 Parents/Guardians:

On behalf of myself, Mrs. Fox and Mrs. Barrieau, I would like to welcome you and your children back to another school year at Magnetic Hill School.  This year your child will be part of a Multiage English Prime classroom.  Renovations to your child's new classrooms have been completed to provide a flexible working environment.  An information session will be taking place at the school on Wednesday, August 29 at 6 p.m. for those parents who would like to come in to see your child's new classroom and meet with his/her teachers.  For those of you not able to attend, we look forward to seeing you either on the first day of school, September 4, or at Meet the Teacher Night in early September.

See you September 4th

Thank you,
Mr. Smith and Staff
