Social Studies for gades 6 and 7 English Prime

In grade 6 Social Studies, we just finished a research project on different Eco zones in the world.  Each group was given an Eco zone of the world and asked to find and discuss the bodies of water, climate, animals, vegetation, landforms, and natural resources.  Before they began, we co constructed the rubric that would be used to mark the students.  Some of them even used the rubric to mark me while I presented my Eco Zone.  After the presentations were finished, the groups are now working on explaining a few ways that living in that eco zone would affect their culture.

In grade 7 Social Studies, students are just beginning a jigsaw activity to learn more about life in British North America in the 1800s.  Each group has been given a section of life or a group of people that they will learn about.  Beginning next week, groups will present the important ideas from each section to the others in the class.  Students will be responsible to get notes to the others in the class (they have the option of using a large piece of chart paper, photocopying (if it’s short) or having the class take notes from their presentation.  Both classes have created a rubric that will be used to mark their notes, group work, effort, visual of their notes and their presentation.

In grade 7 Post Intensive French, students are currently working on an invention.  During our last unit, students read, wrote and discussed many different inventions.  We discussed which inventions were important, what would happen without some inventions and how some inventions have impacted society, like the wheel and pencil.  They are now planning a new invention that they will write about and present to the class.
