Orange Shirt Day & Socktober Fest

Hello Families,

Northrop Frye is getting ready for Orange shirt day.  We are encouraging the students to wear orange on Monday September 30th to recognize that every child matters.  Orange shirt day was designed to educate people and promote awareness about the residential school system and the impact this system had on indigenous communities for more than a century in Canada.

Also, we are having “Socktober” fest at Northrop Frye.  The entire month of October we will be collecting brand new socks to donate to Harvest House.  Bring us your socks to help keep feet warm this winter.  This is our first initiative in taking part in the Promise Project to help Inspire, Educate and Empower youth!

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Free Grade 5 YMCA Membership

Free Y memberships for Grade 5 students aim to help kids get more active, have fun

(Moncton, September 25, 2019) – The YMCA of Greater Moncton will again offer free memberships to Grade 5 students in the community.

“The purpose of our free Grade 5 membership program is to get kids moving and inspire them to lead active, healthy lives, all while having fun!” says April Morton, VP of Child Services for the local Y. “This is the sixth year of the program and we continue to receive great feedback for the initiative.”

The free Grade 5 ‘Get Active!’ memberships – available October 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020 – provide access to swim lessons at the Y’s main facility, 30 War Veterans Ave., Moncton, as well as to free group exercise classes, free Tween activities and more, says Morton.

“With research continuing to show that only a small percentage of kids get the physical activity daily they need, the free Grade 5 memberships are the right thing for us to do,” she says.

On or after October 1, Grade 5 students – accompanied by a parent or guardian – can bring their final Grade 4 report card or a Grade 5 confirmation letter from their school to the Y’s Membership Desk to sign up for the free Grade 5 ‘Get Active!’ membership. Parents complete paperwork and sign a registration form. Students can then use their membership immediately.

The YMCA of Greater Moncton is a registered charitable organization dedicated to building healthy, strong and connected communities where everyone belongs. The Y offers a range of opportunities for people to become healthier and happier. Its focus on inclusiveness and accessibility means it serves people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities through all stages of life.
