Message from TRHS for Grade 9 families
Good afternoon from TRHS:

Our grade 9s are beginning their substance abuse unit in the Personal Development & Career Planning curriculum.  Tomorrow they will take part in a presentation from our school Addictions Counsellor.

As part of this unit, the classes will also be shown "Through a Blue Lens", a documentary from the National Film Board that follows policemen on their beat documenting drug abuse in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. In this documentary, drug addicts talk openly about how they got to the streets and send a powerful message of caution to others about the dangers of drug abuse.

Due to the nature of the topic, the film will depict real life situations that students may find difficult. We encourage you to discuss this with your child and contact their teacher with any questions.

Here is the link to the documentary:  https://www.nfb.ca/film/through_a_blue_lens/

Message re: Students enrolled in Outdoor Pursuits
Hello from TRHS,

Your son or daughter has registered for Outdoor Pursuits 110 at TRHS for semester 2.   This course is best described as experiential learning in, for, or about the outdoors and typically involves wilderness based experiences in which students participate in a various outdoor activities.  The course will involve excursions and there is a course fee of $90 which is required from all students enrolled.  The course fee can be paid online from the School Cash link on the TRHS website (trhs.nbed.nb.ca) or at the school office on or before Feb. 10th.

Due to the fact that outdoor education is an active process and not a passive process of learning, it requires active participation from all students and it is the quality of these activities that leads to the achievement of the curriculum outcomes.

Students will need to bring appropriate outdoor wear depending on weather (such as winter boots, mitts, hat, jacket, snow pants, splash pants, rubber boots, etc.) and will be expected to be outside daily as long as the temperature does not fall below -25 degrees Celsius.

Please ensure your child comes prepared to go outdoors on Thursday, February 2nd.

Thank you!
