Information Items:
-We are pleased to announce that 54 grade 5 students applied for and have received leadership roles. The roles include video announcers, office support staff, junior secretaries, milk team, 7 habits team, Cool Cats, F.E.S. Ambassadors, Literacy leaders, Intramural leaders and technology team.
- We are thrilled with a partnership we have established with Kings Way Care Centre. It has been a work in progress for the past couple of years and will be an excellent opportunity for our students to develop leadership skills while forming new friendships and learning about another generation. The seniors will learn about new technology and trends and serve as role models for our children. Three classes will be involved the first year. Mr. McRae’s class will be sharing music class once every two weeks with the seniors.    Mrs. Creamer and Mrs. Urquhart’s classes will play board games and card games (math skill development) with the seniors on rotating weeks. This initiative supports Ends Policy #4 of our School Improvement plan “To Enhance Family Engagement and Community Partnerships”.
-We will continue our involvement with the ElF (Early Literacy Friends) program  in which volunteers provide one on one literacy tutoring to grade two children. Volunteers work two one-hour after school sessions a week for a 10 week block. We were very pleased with the gains students made last year with this support. This initiative supports both Ends Policy #2 “Students at FES will demonstrate continuous improvement in literacy skills, striving to meet or exceed the standards set by the province of NB” and Ends Policy #4 on community partnerships.

-We need your assistance with our new “Falcons In the Spotlight” bulletin board in which we highlight the accomplishments of our talented, dedicated, caring FES students. Our goal is to post all newspaper articles and photos which feature FES students. We want to recognize both our current and former students because “Once a Falcon, always a Falcon”. Please send in articles and photos (including ones from this past summer).

-On Wednesday we will be hold our Terry Fox Walk and we invite students to donate a “Toonie for Terry” with all proceeds going directly to the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research. The children are welcome to bring in their toonies on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. The walk will take place at 10:45 and parents are welcome to come and walk with their children
-  Because of the beautiful fall weather, snowpants are optional for the first skating group. Snowpants provide not only warmth but also a soft, cushiony padding for children who fall. If your child is a novice skater, consider sending snowpants or splash pants. We ask all students to wear mittens or gloves to protect their hands.
- You may notice two newly painted blue and silver benches on our playground.  These benches, known as ““Flash’s Friends’ Benches” amongst our students,  are based on the “Buddy Bench” concept.  It is a simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship on the playground.  The way “Flash’s Friends’ Benches” work is if students feel lonely on the playground without anything to do, they can go to the buddy bench, and another student will come to the bench and ask if they want to play or talk. Thank you to Andrea Steele, one of our talented F.E.S. parents for her artistic abilities and for painting the benches.
- You have probably noticed a change in bus numbers this week. The reason for the change is to eliminate the duplicate numbers across the three Education Centres ( St. Stephen, Saint John and Sussex). In our area all numbers will be in the 600s with most double digit bus numbers just having a 6 added to the beginning. The two exceptions are 106 and 109. Please see below:
