Information Items:
- Our first visit with our friends from Kings Way Care Centre was a huge success. Mr. McRae’s students greeted the seniors at the door and helped them to the music room where they learned about each other and sang songs together. “You Are My Sunshine” and “Down By The Bay” were huge hits with our visitors. On Monday we will greet our second group of seniors who will play educational games with Mrs. Creamer’s grade 2 class.
-We are still in need of a few ElF (Early Literacy Friends) volunteers who provide one on one literacy tutoring to grade two children. Volunteers work two one-hour after school (1:35-2:35) sessions a week for a 10 week block. To learn more about this great initiative or to  register to volunteer or donate at elfnb.com or call 1-855-898-2533. There is a training session planned for Saint John in early October.

-We are continuing to celebrate our “Falcons In the Spotlight”. Our goal is to post all newspaper articles and photos which feature current or past FES students. Please send in any articles and  newspaper clippings.

-We are pleased to share our student Code of Conduct which is “By living the 7 Habits we, as students, of F.E.S. will be respectful, responsible, ready to learn and safe”. Over the next few weeks, it will continue to be shared by teachers and through video announcements and assemblies. Students with become familiar with the language and expectations of our code of conduct and its connections to the 7 Habits.
-Thank you for your support with our Terry Fox Walk. Together we raised $746.53 for cancer research.
-  As I mentioned last week, snowpants are optional for our first skating group. We do not, however, recommend wearing shorts on skating days as it is chilly in the rink even when it’s warm outside.  Yesterday we had 3-4 students who came in shorts without pants for the rink.
- Our “Flash’s Friends’ Benches” are being well used! Our students are doing a fantastic job inviting others to join their play.
-A reminder that we are a “nut free” and “scent free” environment. We have a staff member and a few students who are allergic to latex so please do not send latex balloons for any occasions. Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep F.E.S. a safe place for all.
- As you are aware, a new Anglophone elementary school is under contruction at 189 Pettingill Rd., Quispamsis, next to Quispamsis Middle School with an anticipated opening in the fall of 2015. The Naming Committee needs the help of the public to name the new school. For more details and to submit your suggestion, please visit the Anglophone South website at http://web1.nbed.nb.ca/sites/ASD-S/Pages/welcome.aspx. The deadline for submitting your suggestions is October 15th.
It’s hard to believe that we are thinking about next year already, but kindergarten registration will take place October 14-17th. Please spread the word to friends and neighbours.
-Thank you to all our volunteers who contribute to making F.E.S. a fantastic place to learn and work. We have library volunteers now for all of our classes.
