Information Items:
-Thank you to everyone who participated in our fall fundraiser. Thanks to your generosity, we raised just over $6000 for our school!
- A big thank you to those F.E.S. families who have been in touch regarding our Career Expo on Friday, November 7th. To date, we only have 8 presenters confirmed and we are hoping to have at least 18-20. Please feel free to call Ms. Casey if you think you might be able to participate in the morning, afternoon, or both. The Career Expo will begin at 8:15 and end at 2:30. We promise to have delicious snacks and coffee and I know our boys and girls would love to learn more about your career. If you have any questions, feel free to call Ms. Casey at 847-6304 or email kerry.casey@nbed.nb.ca.

- Student Led Clubs applications will be reviewed early next week by our “Leader In Me” teacher team. We will let students know on Thursday which clubs were approved based on application details. There was great interest from our grade 3 students in becoming “Leaders In Training” and we will pair up as many as we can. Clubs will run on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning November 10th and ending December 12th. The noon hour schedule will change on those days to a common lunch time at 12:00pm-12:30pm. Mme. Hanson and Mme. Beaulieu’s class will eat at 11:40 or 11:45 and all other classes will eat after clubs.

- We are joining David Suzuki (along with thousands of students and teachers from across Canada and around the world) who are helping to raise awareness about the importance of unplugging and spending more time outside. On Take Me Outside Day (October 29th) we are commiting to spending 1 hour outside! We are also asking our students to pledge to have a screen free day (except for smartboard at school). Please encourage your children to unplug for the day.

- On Halloween, K-3 classes are encouraged to dress in their costumes and students in grades 4-5 classes are encouraged to wear black and orange. Halloween can seem like a minefield to families of children with Diabetes and food allergies (nuts, wheat, dairy) and we want to ensure the safety of all our students. As a result, instead of having parents send in treats for the entire class, children will be bringing home decorated paper bags Tuesday or Wednesday.  We ask that you place a few treats of your choice (nut free) and perhaps a ‘love note’, and send it back.  On Halloween, children will enjoy a safe day of fun and learning. I know a few teachers had previously communicated with parents regarding class wide treats, and they will be communicating with you early next week regarding changes to their plan.

- The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development realizes the importance of keeping parents informed on all educational matters and policy developments. In keeping with this mandate, personnel at the Department and District Level will be hosting parent information sessions in regard to Policy 322 which establishes the requirements to ensure New Brunswick public schools are inclusive. Each parent session will focus on the intent of Policy 322 which is "the pairing of philosophy and pedagogical practices that allows each student to feel respected, confident and safe so he or she can participate with peers in the common learning environment and learn and develop to his or her full potential". Parents will gain an understanding of the intent and practice of this important educational policy and have an opportunity to ask questions related to clarification of this policy. Parents are encouraged to attend one of the following information sessions within Hampton Education Center:

§  Thursday, October 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hampton High School Library
§  Tuesday, October 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rothesay High School Library
(Please feel free to attend any one of the three information session convenient with your
schedule.)

-We are looking forward to our first Santa’s Workshop this year!  We know the children will be excited to purchase items for their family members. The dates have been pushed back by a couple of weeks to coincide with the closing of the library for first term. It will now be held the week of Dec. 8th when the children will certainly be in the Christmas spirit.
-Our dedicated Christmas Parade Committee is already hard at work. This weekend they are busy preparing the trailer surface and walls and next week they will begin work on costumes for our grade 5 students and for our float characters. Thank you from all members of the FES community for overseeing our award winning entry in the annual KV Santa Claus Parade.

- The Quispamsis Figure Skating Club offers LEARN TO SKATE programs for ages 3 and up on Monday/Friday 3:45 to 4:45 or Saturday 12:15-1:15.  The Pre-CanSkate programs can teach your skater the basic skating skills they need for hockey, figure skating, power skating, speed skating or just for fun. STARSkate programs available for Junior, Intermediate, and Senior level skaters. To register contact the club at 849-3933 or qfscsk8r@gmail.com.
