Information Items:
-Congratulations to our float committee on another job well done!! “ Merry Madagascar from Fairvale” is sure to be very impressive! I know that all of our FES families are excitingly waiting to see our float this year. A special thank you to Charlotte and Trevor Pierce for their yard, trailer, and trucks year after year, Rob Thomson for his amazing artistic talent, Dave MacLeod, Colin Hodgin, Liz Tait, and Scott Needle for being the executive crew and to the following parents who gave so freely of their time to assist in a variety of ways: Cindy Allison, Crystal Lancaster, Angie Davis, Jen Arbeau, Inesa Navickas, Shawn Rouse, Jen Cohoon, Brandi Cooper, Shauna Branscombe, Dean Mercer, Ed Hindle, Tracy Turnbull and Emily Ingersoll.
-Open Library starts this week on Tuesday for both primary (grades 1 &2) and upper elementary students at lunch recess.  We have added Morning Open Library (similar to Open Gym) on Tuesdays from 7:40-8:05 for grades 1 & 2 students and for those in grades 3-5 who are in choir and unable to attend at lunch. On Tuesday mornings interested students (gr. 1&2 and Upper Elem. choir members) are invited to come directly into the school to participate. Students are reminded to go to their coat area to hang up their outerwear, bookbags, and to put on their indoor sneakers before going to the library. Our grade 5 Literacy Leaders, in collaboration with Mrs. Shillington, are overseeing Morning Open Library and will read to and assist grade 1 and 2 students  During open library students will have an opportunity to listen to reading, read to self or read to a partner. We are excited to get this started! (Our kindergarten students are not participating in Open Library at this time at the recommendation of their teachers. 30 minutes is a long time for them to be reading [or read to] and they are loving their time on Dreamland)
-There is an error in the FES Family Calendar for Christmas concerts. On Monday, Dec. 15th (at 8:30 am) the Grade 1-5 Christmas concert is for parents of children whose surname starts with the letters A-M. The concert is repeated on Tuesday morning, Dec. 16th for parents of children whose surname commences with the letters N-Z.
- Nov 28th is National Jersey Day, and students are encouraged to wear their favorite jersey to school.. ,
-We continue to increase awareness of our multicultural community at FES. We have erected a large globe in our main hallway with strings linking birth countries of students (and families) to their respective flags (via string). We have displayed the greeting “Hello” in many different languages in the lobby and we have been interviewing children as part of video announcements. Each child interviewed introduces him or herself, indicates his or her birth country (or birth country of a parent) and shares a simple phrase in the language of that country.  A variety of books has been ordered for the library and should arrive within the next week or two. There will be a variety of fiction and nonfiction books available.
- O ur Free The Children club members (grade 4 & 5 students) will be travelling to Halifax on Thursday afternoon to take part in 'We Day' on Nov 28th. This is a terrific opportunity for our students and we look forward to the positive messages that they will spread at FES when they return. This worldwide youth empowerment conference will be webcast, and you can watch by visiting www.weday.com and follow the events link to the Atlantic Canada event.
-Please follow our school on Twitter @FairvaleFalcons.
-Our exciting Student Led Clubs continue on Mondays and Wednesdays.
