Voicemail - Janaury 15, 2018

Good evening.  This is Barb Creamer speaking with a few important messages for Monday, January 15th.
1.  The first message is to all parents with children currently in Kindergarten, Grade 2 and Grade 5 who would like to register their child for French Immersion programs next year.
This year the entire registration process is online. The registration deadline is January 30th, 2018.  Only parents wishing to enrol their child in the French Immersion program has to complete the online registration; children not registered will automatically be placed in the English Prime programs in Grade 1, Grade 3 and Grade 6. You can find the registration at the bottom of the Anglophone South District Website main page by clicking on “IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON REGISTERING FOR FRENCH SECOND LANGUAGE PROGRAMS”. First, click on the link below to REGISTER YOUR CHILD FOR FSL PROGRAMS, then Click on “Registration for French Immersion Programs 2018-2019”. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Register for “French Immersion 2018-2019”.
2.  We have a number of staffing changes we wanted you to be aware of.  Mrs. Mason, our grade 5 Intensive French teacher has been replaced, starting today, by Ms. Jasmine Moulton.  Mrs. Mason is expecting a baby in February, however had to leave her position a little early due to her condition.  I’m sure you all join me in wishing her well in the coming weeks and months with her growing family.  Ms. Moulton is not new to QES, as she taught Grade 1 French Immersion in the month leading up to Christmas.  Ms. Moulton will be contacting parents to introduce herself this week, as she will be here until the end of the school year.
We would like to welcome Ms. Kelly Arnold to our grade 1 French Immersion classroom.  She will be team teaching with Mrs. Stiles until the end of the school year.  Again, Ms. Arnold will be contacting parents of her students to introduce herself in the coming days.
Mrs. Assunta Blackier, our longest serving teacher at QES, will be retiring on January 31st.  Mrs. Blackier has taught here for 29 years, long enough to be teaching parents of some current students.  Throughout Assunta’s career she has always strived to ensure her students are successful as learners.  She has been a true advocate for each of her charges, always having their best interest at heart.  I know students and parents alike will miss her as much as our staff will.  We wish her loads of fun, especially travelling, as well as good health in her retirement.  Mrs. Megan Latimer will moving into Mrs. Blackier’s grade 1 classroom for the remainder of the school year beginning February 1st.
Finally, we will be welcoming Mrs. Ashley Burnett back from her maternity leave on Monday, February 5th.  She will be homeroom teacher to the current grade 5 Intensive French students, who will be moving into the English Prime portion of their year.  The current grade 5 English students will be moving into the grade 5 Intensive French the same day.
That’s all for today.  I’ll be speaking with you later in the week.  Until then, have a great few days.

September 28
Voicemail - September 28, 2017

Good afternoon.  This is Barb Creamer calling from Quispamsis Elementary School with a few messages for Thursday, September 28th.

1. The new by-law in Quispamsis states that everyone must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet when skating. This may be an issue for some of our students who do not wear hockey helmets but have brought bike helmets in the past. PRO Kids has helped to support this by donating 100 youth hockey helmets that are to be used at the Q-Plex and the Quispamsis Arena. Only 15 of these helmets will be available during our ice time.  We ask that you please ensure your child has the proper helmet for the 4 skating opportunities during the month of October.
2. Kindergarten registration is once again this year coming up the week following Thanksgiving.  If you, or someone you know from our neighbourhood, have a child born in 2013 then you have to register your child to begin school next fall.  To register, you must provide a copy of your child’s birth certificate, Medicare card and proof of immunization.  So, from Tuesday, October 10th to Friday, October 13th stop by the school office to register anytime from 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 pm.  For your convenience, we will be in the office until 6:00pm on Thursday, October 12th.  If you have any questions, please contact Lynn Folkins at 847-6207 or by email at
3. I would like to remind parents that they should sign in to the district transportation website to receive information about school closures and bussing directly from the source.  Each of the students brought home an information sheet with a tiny strip attached containing your child’s student number.  This number is necessary to sign in, as it makes the information you receive specific to your child’s school and bussing arrangement.  You can access the Bus Planner site at:  Once in, open the “parent portal” and sign up.
4. Our “school lockdown” drill today went very well.  All students and staff were calm and treated the drill seriously.  Teachers took a few minutes to discuss the process before and following the drill in order to hear from their students any concerns or anxiety they may have felt.  We encourage you to take some time this evening to talk about the drill today and to reassure them they are safe at school.  Next Tuesday or Wednesday we will be doing our last drill until November.  The drill will be a planned fire drill and walk to our closest off-site evacuation location - the parking lot of Kings Church.  We will decide which day based on the weather and will notify you on Monday which day it will be.  Thank you for your support with these important safety matters.
That’s it for today.  Enjoy the weekend ahead.
