This is a message from Mrs. Blanchard, Principal at Hampton Elementary School. Here is your weekly edition of the HES Hawk Squawk. This week was filled with Random Acts of Kindness in recognition of Pay it Forward month.

In addition to May being recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month, it is also Food Allergy Awareness Month in Canada with May 8-11th being designated Food Allergy Awareness Week in our community. We will be encouraging students and staff to wear purple on May 10th in support of raising awareness for Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis. Food allergy awareness FACTS:
•1 in 13 children has a food allergy. That’s two in every classroom!
•Every 3 min, a food allergy reaction sends someone to the ER, that’s more than 200,000 visits per year.
•8 foods account for 90% of all reactions: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish and shellfish.

DARLINGS ISLAND BUS ROUTE: Bus # 705 will not cross the barricades going into entrance to the island. It will be picking students up on the mainland side at 7:40 am for all students, and dropping the students off at the same location on the pm runs. Bus # 705 is the only bus that travels to and from Darlings Island for all students.

Jump Rope for Heart kicks off on Tuesday with a representative from the heart and stroke foundation visiting to talk to students about Heart Health.

Volunteer Breakfast: On Thursday, May 3rd we welcome all volunteers to our Appreciation Breakfast from 7:45-8:45. There will be coffee and treats as well as a short performance by some of our students. This is a small way for us to thank you for your involvement in our school and for all you do!

Friday, May 4th and Monday, May 7th: There is no school for students on these two days. Friday is Provincial Council Day for teachers in which they gather around the province for Professional Learning based on their teaching level (Elementary, Middle and High School) as well as Monday, May 7th which is a Branch NBTA/AEFNB Meeting day for teachers.

Please find below a message from Ms. Watson, Office of the Superintendent regarding Wednesday, June 6th:
Under the NB Teachers Collective Agreement, all Kindergarten to Grade 8 teachers are to receive two half days each year for report card preparation.  The teachers had a half day in November dedicated to preparation of their report cards. The report cards were new to everyone and this time was appreciated.  On March 15 the Kindergarten to grade 8 teachers were scheduled to have another half day to help with their preparation of the March 2018 Report Cards.  Unfortunately this was a storm closure day across the District.  As a result of this, we must adjust our school calendar so there is a half day dedicated for the June report card preparation at K-8.  This will happen on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 and on that day it will be an early dismissal day for all K to 8 students. We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause, and we hope by giving a one month notice you will be able to make the necessary arrangements.

Our weekly Hawk Squawk is always posted on our school website under the Synrevoice tab!
