This is a message from Mrs. Blanchard, Principal at Hampton Elementary School. Here is your weekly edition of the HES Hawk Squawk.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART: Our Jump money has been tallied and we have surpassed our goal with over $4700 raised for the Heart and Stroke Foundation!

Hot Lunch Orders for JUNE: A reminder all hot lunch orders are due online by Sunday!

Milk Orders: Our last day for milk was scheduled to be Friday, June 15th, however, due to the three days of school closures we are extending the milk into the last week of school to replace the days missed. If your child’s class is away on a field trip the last week of school, they may opt to receive their milk on a different day that week.

Staff Update: We welcome back Mrs. Long to Grade 4 this coming week. Miss. Palmer will be in the classroom on Tuesday to support a smooth transition back. We wish Miss Palmer well and hope we will still see her in her role as supply teacher for Anglophone South. Miss Reay is continuing to replace Mrs. Hill in Music and choir.

Grade 4 Provincial Assessments: Due to the flood school closures, our students have been granted a one week extension and therefore will begin on Monday, May 28th. Students will be assessed in the areas of reading, math and science. Students should be well rested, have a good breakfast, nutritious snacks for school and of course, water!

PJ Day for Juvenile Diabetes: At Hampton Elementary we will be having a day to support Juvenile Diabetes suggested by one of our students who is living with T1D. On May 25th, students will be permitted to wear their PJ’s and we will be accepting donations for the JDRF organization. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the cells in the pancreas that make insulin. Unlike type 2 diabetes, T1D is not linked to being overweight, lack of exercise or other lifestyle factors. It is not preventable and its cause is unknown.

“I Read, We Read, H.E.S. Reads!” Did you know there are only 4 Fridays left before the end of the school year? At H.E.S we would like to unite with families and the community to boost students’ reading skills. Each Friday, you are welcome to join us from 8:15a.m. until 8:45a.m. to listen to our students reading. Reading aloud helps build fluency, improves comprehension and helps develop critical reasoning. The reader is more invested in the process and is more likely to think about what he or she is saying while reading. More importantly, reading aloud builds reading confidence!

Home and School Reminders:
1, Hot lunch orders are due on the 20th of each month. If you are paying by etransfer, you may still squeeze in your order by Sunday.
2. Big Fair Day – we are currently collecting items for classroom baskets as part of our fundraiser. The baskets are looking great and tickets to purchase will be sent home soon!
3. Donations for Big Fair Day – we are always looking for people to volunteer their time for Big Fair Day, but for those who are unable to do so, we suggest helping with donations. Items requested include: water, juice, prizes (dollar store items, trinket type items, loot bag prizes etc).

Please find below a message from Ms. Watson, Office of the Superintendent regarding Wednesday, June 6th: this day will be a half day for students as the afternoon will be allocated to June Report Card preparation at the K-8 level.

Our weekly Hawk Squawk is always posted on our school website under the Synrevoice tab!
