​There are lots of activities for families coming up at MES!

 
Just a reminder that our current K students stay home on Thursday May 31 to accommodate a visit by our PreK students.  We look forward to welcoming more students into our Family of Learners.
 
June 1 at 1 pm is our next assembly - Families and Community members are welcome to attend.
 
Monday June 4 from 5:00-6:30 is our next PSSC meeting - we'll be serving supper and providing childcare and along with our meeting, we'll be reading "The Technology Tail", a Digital Footprint story.  All families in attendance will receive a copy of The Technology Tail.  There will be tips for parents who want to reinforce online safety, kindness and respect in a digital world.   Please give the school a call at 466-7315 to let us know you're coming so that we can plan for supper!
 
Thursday June 7 is also a big day - our K students will be having their annual fun day here at the school and our grades 1-5 will be travelling by bus to Kingsbrae Gardens in St. Andrews for Artrageous activities.  Permission forms are going home early this week.

Please note that Wednesday March 14 is a professional learning day for all school staff and there is no school for students.  Teachers will be writing report cards for half of the day and engaging in professional learning for the other half of the day.
 
Also, IMAC families are reminded that IMAC students will skate and swim on Friday March 16 from 1:30-2:30 at the Garcelon Civic Centre.
 
Notices will come home this week regarding parent teacher meetings and each family is asked to return their form to the child’s homeroom teachers, whether you wish to sign up for a meeting or not.
 
Also, Scholastic Book Fair will be in our building during the week of March 26 and will be open during parent teacher meeting times for parents and families and children will have opportunity to go to the book fair with their class during the week as well.

Next week if School Spirit Week:

Monday, students and staff are invited to dress up as their favourite sports player.
Tuesday, students and staff are invited to dress up as their favourite superhero.
Wednesday, students and staff are invited to wear pink in honour of Pink Shirt Day.
Thursday, students and staff are invited to dress up in a crazy hat or have a crazy hair-do.
Friday, students and staff are invited to dress up in their class colours (please speak to your child’s homeroom teacher for your class colour!).
 
There will be an additional wrestling class for grades 3-5 students who are already registered in our wrestling club.  This class will be Monday Feb. 26 from 3:00-5:00.
 
Please note that IMAC will be skating and swimming at the GCC on Monday from 1:30-2:30 PM.
 
There will be as assembly on Friday March 2 at 1 PM – our entire community is invited to attend.
 
There will be no school the week of March 5 for March Break holiday and school will resume for students on Monday March. 12.

Please note that Wed. Feb. 14 the K-kids are hosting a Royalty dress up day - pay 25 cents to the K-kids and come dressed as a king or queen or prince or princess - all proceeds go to the Charlotte County Hospital Foundation, the charity that the K-kids have chosen to support.
 
Kindergarten will be skating from 9-10 AM at the GCC on Thursday Feb. 15.  Families are welcome to join us.
 
Just a reminder that we have wrestling on Wed. after school this week and drama practice is Tuesday and Thursday after school.

Parent Committee Meeting Feb. 5!

1) If any MES parents are interested in taking a free Reiki certification course on February 21st at MES, please apply with Cathy Halstead, Community Schools Coordinator, at 466-7362. This course would run all day from 8:30-4:30.  Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.
 
(2) MES will be offering the POWER UP! program starting in March.  POWER UP! is a free leadership training program designed to help you take your next step. The program provides women with the opportunity to focus on life goals and how to meet those goals. POWER UP includes training in communication, leadership, assets, problem solving, conflict resolution, personal goal setting and stress management along with many other topics. If you are interested in our program, you can apply on line at www.sjwen.ca/ or contact Cathy Halstead for an application form.
 
 
(3) K-Kids Club is collecting donations of used children’s books - that are in great condition - to hold a book sale in February.  You can drop book donations off at the MES office.
 
4) deadline for French Immersion is coming up on January 31…you register your child on line at the ASD-S website.  Please note that French Immersion is available for children going into grades 1, 3 and 6.
 
5) Our next parent committee meeting is coming up on Monday Feb. 5 at 5 PM.   Mark Huys will be speaking on “Keep Calm and Carry On” as a parent and we’ll be offering spaghetti supper and childcare.  Please call the school at 466-7315 to sign up so we know how much food to cook!
 
6) Our next assembly is Monday Feb. 5 at 10:30 – all are welcome to join us!
 
7) Grade 1 and 2 will be skating on Wed. at the GCC from 12:30-1:30 PM.

Our next Parent School Support Committee meeting is Monday Feb. 5 from 5:00-6:30 - we'll have a spaghetti supper and childcare provided, with door prizes for adults and kids!  Mark Huys will be speaking with the parents about how to "Keep Calm and Carry On" in our parenting!  Please R.S.V.P. by Friday Feb. 2 to the school for your chance to win a superstore grocery card!

 
Our drama club has been practicing for their spring performance of "Jungle Book" each Friday at noon hour and now we're expanding our practices to each Tuesday and Thursday until 4:30 PM.  Please be sure to contact Mrs. Brown if transportation home is a problem.
 
Wednesday January 17 is one of our half days for students with early dismissal from MES at 11:10 AM.  Please note that this is a reverse of the morning bus run.

Our dismissal time for Friday has changed - we will now be dismissing at 11:10 AM instead of the previously announced 11:30 dismissal.

It's been an exciting few weeks at MES and our last week before Christmas will be no exception!
 
We're doing some theme days over the next few days:
Monday is green and red day
Tuesday is ugly sweater day
Wednesday is holiday hat day
Thursday is our Christmas Concert, beginning at 9 AM Friday is PJ Day.
 
If Thursday is a storm day, our PJ day will be cancelled and our concert will be at 9 AM Friday.
 
IMAC students are skating and swimming on Monday December 18.
 
Tuesday is a big day as well - it's our annual Christmas Bazaar where for 25 cents per gift, your child can purchase a gift for all of the folks that live in your home.  Volunteers will be on hand to help wrap the gifts and you can look forward to some lovingly chosen gifts on Christmas morning!
 
Please note that Friday Dec. 22 is a half day for students with dismissal at 11:30 AM. It will be a reverse of the morning run.
 
On behalf of our staff, we wish each of you a very restful and happy holiday season and we will see you back at school on Monday Jan. 8!

Thanks to Arauco for sponsoring free Christmas Dinner for all MES students again this year!  Students in K-2 will have their free turkey dinner on Tuesday Dec. 12 and IMAC students will have their dinner on Wednesday Dec. 13.  Storm dates are Thursday for K-2 and Friday for IMAC.
 
Grades 1 and 2 will be skating on Wed. Dec. 13 from 12:30-1:30 PM.
 
Our concert date is Dec. 21 at 9 AM and our storm date is Dec. 22 at 9 AM.
 
Friday Dec. 22 is the last day prior to Christmas vacation and children will be dismissed at 11:30 AM that day.  Please note that it will be a reverse of the morning run.
 
Our annual Christmas Bazaar will be held Dec. 19 where your children have opportunity to purchase gifts for your household for 25 cents.

A few reminders for this week:
We have a great group registered (17 adults and 27 children) for our PSSC tonight - watch for more details about how you can become involved and future meeting plans!
 
Kindergarten is skating this week on Thursday at the GCC from 9 -10 AM.
 
Arauco will be providing a free turkey dinner to all students next week - students in grades K-2 will get their free dinner on Tuesday and IMAC students will get free dinner on Wednesday.   Thanks to Arauco for their ongoing support of our school community.
 
Our concert date is Thursday Dec. 21 at 9 AM with a storm date of Dec. 22 at 9 AM.  The Last day before holidays for students is Dec. 22 and students will be dismissed at 11:30 AM.
 
Please note that Wednesday Dec. 6 is a half day for students with dismissal at 11:30 as there is professional learning for all staff in the afternoon.
