Director, Education Support Services- Acting

June 1, 2024- December 31, 2025- possibility of extension

Pay Band 9    ($4482 - $5173 Bi-Weekly)

 

The Director of Education Support Services position is part of the senior management team for each school district.  The primary role of this position is to provide the leadership, expertise and knowledge to coordinate programs and services that support inclusive education in the schools and classrooms of the district. This encompasses the development and monitoring of policies, the coordination, monitoring and supervision of programs and employees; the preparation of reports regarding established program and service standards; liaison with EECD and other government departments that provide support to students and families; communication with principals/teachers on policies and issues regarding the support of children with exceptionalities; the development of effective training programs for all staff that to support quality, inclusive education. This position will provide support for school district operations in the development, implementation and support of the District Education Plan.

 

Organizational Relationships:

This position reports to the Superintendent of Schools. Positions reporting to this incumbent:

  • Education Support Services Coordinators
  • Guidance/PLEP Coordinators
  • Psychologists
  • Social Workers
  • Speech Language Pathologists

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

·     Organize and administer all programs and services that would be included under the Education Support portfolio, develop roles and responsibilities, work plans and monitor outcomes and performance objectives.

·     Collaborate with Integrated Service Delivery managers to organize and manage Education Staff on the Child & Youth Teams [ISD]

·     Research, develop, organize and implement strategic long term staff training programs.

·     Prepare reports and analysis of local, provincial, national and other data for the purpose of recommending strategies and programs that support inclusive education in School Improvement Plans, District Education Plans and the preparation of the District Report Card.

·    Supervise staff in Education Support Centres through the process developed by the District Accountability Policy.

·    Support School Principals and monitor the staff performance of Education Support Workers that are placed in schools through an established collaboration and consultation process.

·    Support and provide advice to the Directors of Schools and Principals regarding matters relating to effective implementation of programs and services that support a quality, inclusive education environment in schools.

·    Manages, administer and audit budgets and resources related to Education Support Services.

·    Oversee staffing allocations for school based employees and resources that are supported through the Special Education Budget through consultation with school principals and other senior management directors.

·    Liaise with external government departments and agencies that provide support to students with exceptionalities and oversee programs and services that they provide.

·    Help oversee and participate in meetings, direct interventions, mediation, appeals and other activities that support the effective and efficient delivery of District programs and services.

·    Communicate and collaborate with parents, community groups and other agencies that require information or direction regarding issues and events in public education.

·    Ensure that provincial, departmental and district policy and regulations regarding the implementation of inclusionary education practice are being followed in the schools and classrooms in a consistent and effective manner through continual monitoring, consultation and communication with employees and the public.

 

 Qualifications:

 

Education and training:

Masters of Education; with a major in Special Education and Guidance

 

Experience:

A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in teaching in the public school system and in progressive leadership roles in the area of inclusionary education. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

The Assistant Manager of Budget and Accounting is responsible for contributing to the efficiency of the Budget and

Accounting Department through the performance of required accounting duties.

 

DUTIES:  This position reports to the Budget and Accounting Manager and is responsible to:

·         Assist in supervision of accounting, purchasing processes and/or Administrative Services.

·         Assist Budget and Accounting Manager in analysis, preparation, and allocation of the annual administrative and operating budgets in a fair and equitable manner and to reflect district objectives.

·         Assist in forecast, analysis, review, and preparation of timely and accurate monthly reports and make recommendations accordingly.

·         Assist in year-end activities as requested by the Budget and Accounting Manager.

·         Monitor special projects as requested by the Budget and Accounting Manager, ensuring that instructions are followed and budgets are respected.

·         Assist in providing financial guidance, on-going support and training to the district/school financial users.

·         Oversee and administer procurement process.

·         Other duties may be assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Work at this level requires competence normally gained through the equivalent of a University Degree in a non-technical area, or a two (2) year Community College program supplemented by a minimum of four (4) years of related work experience.  Typical work at this level is done within well-defined, somewhat diversified procedures, with many precedents covering most situations and/or readily available assistance.  Duties may include identifying issues for action, providing advisory, coordination or other important support services for use by others in achieving results. Testing to determine competencies required for this position will be administered.

SALARY: $2,046 – $2,823 bi-weekly SBO3 (PSAC) based on a minimum of 36.25 hours/week.

DEFINITION: This is a highly responsible and supervisory work in the coordination and supervision of all custodial operations in a school district. Work involves reasonability for maintaining all schools in the district at a high degree of cleanliness. Duties include assigning and monitoring work, visiting the schools in the district on an ongoing basis to inspect and evaluate the work and performance of all custodians, and make recommendations on the improvement of work methods as required. Work also includes meeting with management regarding the administration of the custodial operations; recommending and implementing improved work procedures, practices and schedules; training new employees and recommending their work locations; inspecting areas requiring minor repairs and reporting same to a superior and participating in the recruitment of new custodial staff. The employee will also be required to establish and maintain records, make reports and recommendations on the requisition of supplies and approved cleaning products. Work is without direct supervision, however, performance is reviewed by a designated superior through discussions, observations, inspections, reports and overall results achieved for conformance with established standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduation from high school, or GED, and considerable experience in both custodial operations and supervisory work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, good verbal and written communication skills and a comprehensive knowledge of provincial and district rules, policies, procedures and regulations specific to the job function are required. Ability to operate a computer and appropriate software programs is required.

Description: The Behaviour Intervention Mentor will provide direct support through various proactive strategies and activities aimed at assisting students with the development of social skills and implementing programs that assist in creating an environment conducive to students staying in school. Work will also consist of developing strategies to keep students retention to promote positive social and communication skill development in students, as well as support the school team in developing positive learning environment initiatives. Work may also include conducting individual or group interventions, support teachers in behaviour management and collaborate with various professionals in the school system and in the community, such as teachers, school psychologists, social workers, probation officers and mental health professionals. The Mentor may participate in case management and case conferencing in the development of intervention plans for behaviour management plans. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor Degree in related field (Psychology, Social Work, Education)

·         Specific knowledge regarding behaviour  and mental health challenges

·         Knowledge of positive support, behavior management strategies

·         ABA and crisis intervention is desirable

DUTIES:      

Work involves driving a school bus for Anglophone South School District on an assigned route.  Duties include the operation of the assigned school bus according to Province of New Brunswick applicable legislation and regulations; conducting cleanup, checking and inspection of the assigned school bus as required; adhering to schedule of run as established by the District; maintenance of discipline and orderly conduct on the school bus according to District policy; and generally ensuring the provision of school bus driving services and of any other services which the District may from time to time assign, all in accordance with the terms of the Collective Agreement. N.B. Other related responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or GED. Possession of a valid New Brunswick Driver’s License endorsed for School Bus Operation and Air Brakes.  Successful completion of the School Bus Driver Training and Orientation Program as provided by the Department of Education.  Possession of a recognized current Standard First Aid Certificate.  Ability to read and write and physically capable of performing assigned tasks.

·         Willingness and ability to travel to multiple school locations as required.  Must have a valid driver’s license and transportation.

 

Necessary Special Requirements:

Salary: This is a unionized PSAC position and falls under School Business Official 3 pay band ($53,196 to $73,398 annual).

SAINT JOHN EDUCATION CENTRE

 

Principal – Loch Lomond School (K-5) – Five Year Term

This school has an English and French Immersion Programs with an approximate student population of 280.

 

Vice Principal – Bayside Middle School (6-8) – Five Year Term

This school has an English and French Immersion Programs with an approximate student population of 650.

 

All applicants for five-year term positions must possess a NB Principal’s Certificate (or interim) with five years successful teaching experience, have or have had a continuing (B) contract in NB.  Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of curriculum and teaching strategies, as well as the school improvement planning process, familiarity, and competency in school facility management and communications-both written and oral, plus provide evidence of recent professional development through the Professional Growth Process.

 

Asset qualifications include Masters of Education degree, demonstrated practice of applying assessment to instruction; belief in and practice of teaming; strong interpersonal relationship skills; collaborative, inclusive decision-making skills; competence in technology; competence in managing human and fiscal resources; effective discipline strategies; ability to work positively and proactively with the change process and; superior problem-solving and conflict resolution ability.
