"Let's Hear It For Debby" Campaign at Sir James Dunn Academy

We CELEBRATE the amazing fundraising efforts of Sir James Dunn Academy and the community of Saint Andrews.  Anyone who has lived, worked or spent any time in Saint Andrews will know Debby Lord, the amazing skateboarding grandma who runs the Saint Andrews Community Youth Activity Centre.  She is a tireless worker and volunteer who is always looking out for the youth in this community.  She has done so much for so many and the Saint Andrews community, with the help of the students at SJDA, decided it was now their turn to do something for Debby!
Many people did not realize that Debby has had severe hearing loss since about the age of 8.  She is deaf in one ear, and hears at 60% in the other.  The good news is that quality hearing aids will restore Debby’s ability to hear.   To do this for Debby $4300 needed to be raised and the “Let’s Hear it for Debby” campaign was launched.
The students at SJDA kick-started the campaign in the middle of September with a “Dress Like Debby Day” (colourful socks, ball caps and sport jerseys filled the school), a dance for Debby and painting colourful handprints on the wall of the school in her honour.  Their awesome efforts raised $2035.  The leadership class helped at the “Let’s Hear it for Debby” table at the Indulge Market which raised over $1100.  Additional donations from community members completed the fundraising efforts and Debby has already been in to see the audiologist and will be sporting new purple hearing aids very soon!  Thank you SJDA and the Saint Andrews community!  You have done a wonderful thing for a very deserving, amazing lady!
