This is a message from Mrs. Blanchard, Principal at Hampton Elementary School.
We have had a great first week of school. Our students are settled in with their teachers, meeting lots of new friends and learning our school expectations and routines. We had our first fire drill practice on Thursday and the students and staff did a wonderful job exiting the school quickly and quietly. Over the next couple weeks we will continue to practice our safety protocols.
Monday your child will be taking home the first Newsletter for the 2018-2019 school year. This is the only newsletter that will be sent in paper hardcopy. We rely on sending information via an email address so please ensure your address is up to date on the student information forms. Newsletters will be sent out by the first day of the month. Our newsletter can be read here: http://web1.nbed.nb.ca/sites/ASD-S/1939/Newsletters/September%202018%20Newsletter%20.pdf and our September Calendar can be read here: http://web1.nbed.nb.ca/sites/ASD-S/1939/Newsletters/September%202018%20Calendar.pdf
This year we will continue to send a weekly Synrevoice “Hawk Squawk” message to all families on Friday afternoons with all the information you require for the upcoming week. This will eliminate you receiving multiple messages on various days of the week. The only exception will be if there is something unexpected that we need to share with you (ie. Early closure, late bus).
All students should now have their own school agenda – Parents should read and sign pages within the first section and remember to initial daily. Don’t forget to complete the Agenda Scavenger Hunt where your child will be entered in a chance to win a family night at the movies!
Morning Supervision begins at 7:50. Please ensure your child is not dropped off before this time. Please remember that the lane directly in front of the school is reserved for bus traffic. If you are driving your child/children to school, please use the drop off location just before the Hawk Nest playground OR past the front doors.
Student fees and school supply fees ($60) are collected each fall to help cover the cost of our skating program, visiting performers and authors, and agendas. Please pay online at https://asd-s.schoolcashonline.com/
Milk Orders are now available online. You may find these listed at https://asd-s.schoolcashonline.com/ All orders are due by Thursday, September 13th, 2018.
Student Picture Day is Wednesday, September 19th! Harvey Studios will be here taking classes for their individual photos. Students will NOT be permitted to have their photo taken unless they have given permission and returned the signed RTIPPA form.
A new SafeArrival program begins on Monday. Please see the information attached. You can now indicate your child’s absence via telephone, website or app. An added advantage is that absences can be reported in advance. For example, if you know your child has a dentist appointment in the future, you can submit that absence (depending on appointment time) as soon as you make the appointment so you do not forget.
A reminder to subscribe to the Bus Planner Parent Portal to receive notifications specific to your child’s bus service. The direct link to this service is https://bp.nbed.nb.ca/asds. If you choose to set up “My Children”, you will require your child’s student ID number, which is available from your child’s teacher.
Cross Country for all Grades 3-5 students who have returned their permission slips begins Wednesday at the Qplex. Transportation is the responsibility of the parent.
Home and School Meeting – Our first Home and School meeting of the year is Thursday, September 13th at 6:30PM in the school library. This is always a fun social time where we talk about the exciting ways we can enrich our students’ school experience.

Becca Schofield Day (message from Mrs. Veniot Guidance Counsellor): This past year, the Legislative Assembly declared the third Saturday of every September as the Becca Schofield Day. This year, the Becca Schofield Day falls on Saturday, September 15th. As a way to mark this important day, I am challenging students and their families to complete at least one random act of kindness on Saturday, September 15th. I am asking the children to write down their kind act on the little paper heart that will be sent home with them next week. Once the kind act has been noted, please send the paper heart back to school with the student on Monday, September 17th. Please ensure to have the student`s name, grade and first letter(s) of their teacher`s last name. The paper hearts will be placed on display on a bulletin board in the school.
LOOKING FOR: Our new Grade 2 French Immersion classes are currently doing a unit on food and are looking for some props to help in their teaching. They would love to have donations of plastic food to create a “grocery store” play station in their classrooms.
If you have not yet returned your child’s information form, please do so as soon as possible. Also, if your child has medical needs, we need the updated medical plan immediately. If your child has a new medical condition or concern, please drop in to complete the appropriate medical forms (“Extreme Allergy Management and Emergency Plan”, “Essential Routine Services and Emergency Plan”).
Have a great weekend!
