This is a message from Mrs. Blanchard, Principal at Hampton Elementary School with your weekly edition of the H.E.S. Hawk Squawk. Highlights for this week include: Ring a Bell for Mental Health, Presentations on Monday, Hampton Food Basket Donations, Triathlon Medal Design Context, After school robotics and Dec. 21st.
Next week we acknowledge the importance of positive Mental Health with the Ring A Bell campaign. As part of the Dots for Kids Day Ring A Bell Campaign students in kindergarten to grade eight across the province will be learning about mental health and wellness in schools from December 3rd – 7th in their classes through different lesson plans, activities, and videos leading up to the main bell ringing event on Friday!
Monday we are preparing for two special presentations. The Grade 4 classes are welcoming Stonehammer Geopark to learn more about the Science unit on Rocks and Minerals. We are also welcoming Sarah Francis, First Nation Educator, to visit classes to share her knowledge which aligns with our Social Studies curriculum.
The Grade 5 students are kicking off their donation drive for the Hampton Food Bank. Beginning on Monday, all students can bring items for the food bank to the school! A reminder about our VIP/best seat in the house fundraiser. Tickets will go on sale the week of Dec 4-8. Each child will be bringing home 6 tickets. (more are available at the office). Winning tickets receive reserved parking and preferred front row seating and a few treats.
H.E.S. is hosting the 3rd annual Triathlon Medal Design Contest for the Hampton Ladies Triathlon kick off was held on Wednesday. Students are invited to produce a unique design for the Hampton Ladies Triathlon medal. All entries must be received before the holidays.
After school Robotics: The Robotics after school program will be running a Winter term this year. This is an ongoing program where prior students may enroll again to continue on their Robotics levels. It is also open to brand new students who are interested in learning about and creating Robotics. More info can be found in the attached brochure.
Our library is closing for the holidays. Please return all books next week so we may do a final inventory over the last week. We do this as we have found in the past, books go missing over the busy holidays while families are travelling and visiting family and friends.
Many of our classes have finished their sessions of skating although there are a few who due to holidays and snow days on their skating day will continue for a couple more weeks.
Friday, December 21 is a full day of work for all staff and a full day of classes for all students. This was communicated from the Department yesterday. The first day back, January 7, 2019 is a PD day focused on School Improvement Planning.
Program information Nights for parents will be scheduled for January 2019 for parents of children currently in kindergarten and grade 5.
