Meet the Teacher Ice Cream Social –
Thurs. August 29, 6:30PM – meet in the GYM
First day of school is Tuesday, September 3rd!

Good evening families!  The school year is upon us and here is your weekly “HES Hawk Squawk”. This is your principal, Mrs. Blanchard. I hope everyone is enjoying the last couple of weeks of summer vacation. We look forward to having all our students back to school very soon. You may reach me by phone 832-6021 or email sarah.blanchard@nbed.nb.ca
Here are a few updates to support a strong start for all students:
o   Our annual Back to School/Meet the Teacher Ice Cream Social is Thursday, August 29th. We are asking ALL families to meet us in the gym to start for Greetings from our Home & School and PSSC (we are looking for new members – please read below).
      • Because many of you have more than one child and more than one class to visit, teachers have prepared slideshows with valuable information (which will be looping). Please introduce yourself to your child’s teacher and view the slideshow before moving on to your next child’s class. At 7:15pm we will invite all families to join us for ice cream in the lobby and playing outside!
o   You will find there are no school supply lists this year. As previously shared, we will be charging an all-inclusive student fee of $60 which will include all student consumable supplies, agendas, skating, and school performances. We ask families to provide only a backpack, lunch bag, indoor sneakers, 2 boxes of tissues and an inexpensive pair of ear buds or head phones.
  • The first day of school is Tuesday, September 3. Students should plan to be at school by 8:20am at the latest.
o   Have you checked busing yet? The District has a new system and you should be able to access it from https://bp.nbed.nb.ca/asds/ If your child is going to a location that is NOT their home residence, you must complete a Courtesy Request for Busing to an Alternate Address on an annual basis. All bus forms should be completed by Weds. Aug. 28th.
o   If you are aware of families who have moved into our catchment area over the summer, please have them drop by the school early next week to register or have them email me at sarah.blanchard@nbed.nb.ca
o   Much more information will continue to be shared via our weekly HES Hawk Squawk, newsletters, and announcements. All are available on the HES website.  Please feel free to contact the office with any questions or any way that we can support a strong start to the school year.
What is the PSSC?
The parent School Support Committee (PSSC) advises the Principal and improves student learning by increasing family and community involvement in the school system.
What are parents asked to do?
·       Parents are asked to attend monthly meetings
·       Parents are asked to learn about the School Improvement Plan
·       Advise the principal on School Improvement Plan
·       Review the school report card and provincial report card with the principal
·       Advise the principal on development of school policies
What is the time commitment?
Meet once a month for 1.5 hours from September to June
Why should you join?
The PSSC is a great way to learn what goes on behind the scenes in the school. It is an easy time commitment and a valuable way to meet other interested parents and the principal. You get to learn about all the strategies put into place to better educate our children.  As a parent you can have a voice in development of school policies.
If interested please call Sarah Blanchard at 832-6021 or email: sarah.blanchard@nbed.nb.ca
