This is a message from Mrs. Blanchard, Principal at Hampton Elementary School. Thank you to all HES families who were able to join us Thursday night for our Open House. It was a great night and we were so happy to see all of you. Despite the rain, we had over 80% of our students show up for this event! As you could see, our new playground is wrapping up construction and we hope the final touches and some paving will be complete in the next couple weeks! As a result, all students will continue to play on the Hawk’s Eye playground.
Please keep in mind as you are planning lunches and snacks for this school year, that all ASD-S facilities are Nut and Scent Free. It is very important that we all respect this policy as it is critical to ensuring the health of all of our students and staff.

The first day for students is Tuesday, September 3rd. Supervision on the playground begins at 7:50 in the morning and children should arrive no later than 8:20. Just a reminder to drive slowly through our school zone as buses and cars are unloading. The speed limit on School Street is 20 km/h. At the 8:15 bell, Grade 2FI and all grade 3 students will gather in the gym where their homeroom teachers will be waiting. Our Grade 4 and 5 students will come inside at the bell and move directly to their homeroom classes.
Our school fee for the 2019-2020 school year is $60. This covers the cost of all student consumable school supplies, the student agenda, special performances at the school and skating which happens a bit later in the year. We ask families to provide only a backpack, lunch bag, tissues, indoor sneakers, and an inexpensive pair of ear buds or head phones. Please pay online at https://asd-s.schoolcashonline.com/
Our administrative assistant was busy all day long entering request for courtesy seating forms for bussing. If your child is going to a location that is NOT their home address, you must complete ANNUALLY a Request for Busing to an Alternate Address These are also available online at the ASD-S website under Bussing and then forms on the left hand side. Bus routes are available on the school district website. You can also subscribe to personalized bussing notifications by going here: https://asdsbp.nbed.nb.ca/Subscriptions/Login.aspx

We are looking for immediate volunteers to act as our Recycling Champion Team – this would require visiting the school on a daily basis to pick up plastic, paper and metal and cardboard and bringing them to the blue bins. Students pre-sort this material so it is just a matter of transporting it to the bins. You can choose a day that works for you and pick up time can be from 3-10p.m. Email sarah.blanchard@nbed.nb.ca to get involved.
Do you want to have input into the direction of the school? Do you have an hour one evening per month? We are in need of new members to our school PSSC committee. The Parent School Support Committee works collectively toward improved education and student achievement and members play an important advisory role to the principal of the school. Our first meeting is Monday, September 16th at 6:30pm in the school library! If this sounds like something you would be interested in being a part of – email sarah.blanchard@nbed.nb.ca. For more info: http://web1.nbed.nb.ca/sites/ASD-S/1939/Pages/PSSC.aspx

Stay tuned for our first school newsletter that will be going out the first week of school. Hard copies will be available for this first edition but are only sent home if they are requested for the remainder of the year. We rely on sending information via an email address so please ensure your address is up to date on the student information forms.
We look forward to another great year here at HES!

See you next week,

Sarah Blanchard
Principal

What’s happening in the Community?
Hampton River Runners are holding their Annual Hampton 5-miler race on Sunday, September 8th. This is a great community event and all funds raised go back to local schools to support active living initiatives.
Robotics After School program is beginning soon – it is a 10 week session every Friday 2:45-4:45 beginning September 13th. The cost is $207. Please email Dr. Jang for further information or to register. This has been a very popular program at H.E.S. with a small group of 20 students who build and code Robots and progress through the 10 level program. New students welcome! jhj2009@robonorthamerica.com or 506.849.8749 / 506.653.7481
