Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:
Applicants must possess a B.Ed., have knowledge of New Brunswick Curriculum Outcomes and Reading and Writing Standards; possess strong commitment to students’ academic and social development; effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to function as a member of a teaching team; ability to work with individual students or groups; knowledge of the stages of Second Language Acquisition; knowledge of instructional strategies effective for English Language Learners; cross cultural understanding and sensitivity as well as the ability to work independently and solve problems.  Preference may be given to applicants with a Certificate in TESL, SIOP or equivalent and/or experience teaching English Language Learners.

INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITION
Newcomer & International Student Mentor (EAL Tutor)
Anglophone South School District
Hampton Education Center (Hampton area schools)
Term Position. Effective: Immediately-June, 2018 (with the possibility of extension)
1 position – 20 hrs. per week with a possibility of additional hours**
(**Mentor hours do not count toward seniority for contract positions)
 
 
Description:
Develop and strengthen students’ English language capabilities in speaking and listening, reading and viewing, writing and representing. Support other subject areas with regard to content-area language; create a schedule for students to attend tutoring sessions; create an individual or group program using appropriate EAL resources; identify problem areas; give leadership to and collaborate with classroom teacher, Guidance, Resource and Education Centre as necessary; provide benchmark assessments at strategic intervals; communicate on a regular basis with classroom teachers on progress and provide helpful strategies to use in the classroom; collaborate, as necessary with the Education Support Teams.
