Youth Employment Fund (YEF)

A new youth employment initiative has been launched by the Province of New Brunswick called the Youth Employment Fund (YEF).

To participate in this program a youth must;
Be legally entitled to work in Canada,
-  Be unemployed, underemployed or working less than 15 hours per week,
Be between 18 and 29 years old (at least 18 years old but less than 30 years old at the time of applying),
Not be a full time student (Graduating high school students, at least 18 years of age, that do not plan to attend post-secondary education and plan to enter the labour force immediately after high school may apply for this program after May 1st),
Be a first time applicant to this program
Not be an immediate family member of the employer (spouse, children, parents, brother, sister), nor an officer or director of the organization or a member of their immediate families.
To apply;

·         A youth can visit a local office of the Department of Post Secondary Education, Training and Labour (PETL) and ask to speak to a PETL Employment Counsellor about YEF

OR

·         Register on the website (www.nbjobs.ca). The registration will come to our Saint John PETL office and a PETL employment counsellor will contact the applicant and set up a meeting. If they are eligible for the program, a counsellor will refer them to YEF. They need to go to the meeting with a resume in hand. If they don’t have one, they can visit one of the 8 Work Room Career Resource Centres (www.careersthatwork.ca) in the region.

Start date:

·         We will be trying to start placing youth with employers beginning April 1, 2015.

·         Not every referral is a guaranteed placement as employers will be interviewing candidates and ultimately make the hiring decision.

Additional program details are attached that you can give to your clients.
