KVHS Wins 10th Reach for the Top Provincial Title in 11 Years

On Saturday, Kennebecasis Valley High School’s Reach for the Top team was in Fredericton for the 2015 Provincial Championships which included 18 teams from across New Brunswick.  Reach for Top is a team trivia competition played by over 500 schools across Canada.

  
In the Senior Division, KV’s team, which included Sam Cookson, Andrew Hirtle, Chris Huddleston, Ryan Queen and Keegan Reynolds, were undefeated with 7 wins, beating Bernice MacNaughton High School in the final.  KVHS fell behind early trailing BMHS 130-40 after round one of the championship game.  KV then mounted a big comeback in rounds two and tree including a key 40-point team question to take the lead into a very tense 20 question closing round.  When the final scores were tailed, KVHS finished on top winning 330-310.  This title represents a tenth Senior Provincial Championship for the school in the last eleven years.
 
The Provincial Championship win completed a great season for KVHS as they finished provincial play undefeated with 44 wins and no losses. 
 
KVHS also had a successful Provincial Championships in the junior categories winning the Intermediate division while finishing second in the Grades 9-10 division.  The intermediate winners from KVHS included Stephen Harvey, Billy O’Connor, Andrew Thistle, and Sam White.
 
KV’s senior team will now represent New Brunswick at the National Championships which will be held in Toronto in late May.  At that event, KVHS will attempt to regain the national title they won in 2010 and 2011.  KV has finished in the top six at all ten National Championships they have attended.
