INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITION
EAL (English Additional Language) Coach (K-12)
August 2024 - June 2025 with the possibility of extension
Description:
The EAL Coach will collaborate with members of the District EAL team to support initiatives related to the District Improvement Plan and the 10 Year Education Plan. Reporting to the EAL Coordinator, the successful candidate will work with schools and EAL Teams to assist in the integration of Newcomers and International Students and support schools in Culturally & Linguistically Diverse practices.
Areas of Responsibilities:
- Work with schools to support the transition of incoming Newcomer/International students and their families. This would include but is not limited to:
- Working with Administrators and staff to support the Welcoming Schools Initiative by providing professional development, support and resources aimed at making schools a welcoming environment for all Newcomer/International students and families
- Support school based EAL teams in coaching educators in best practices in EAL instruction and assessment, as required
- Support ESST in schools without an EST-EAL teacher to implement the Newcomer & Support Transition Plans (NSTP), as required and provide transitional Tier 2/3 academic supports to beginning language learners within the school setting.
- Participate in District level meetings, training, and professional learning
- Coaching, facilitating meetings and leading professional learning both in person and via TEAMS
- Support Culturally & Linguistically Diverse Schools
- Travel throughout the Anglophone South School District will be required
Qualifications and Experience:
- Must possess a New Brunswick Teacher’s Certificate with a preference given to B Contract teachers within the Anglophone South School District.
- Have teaching experience in the public school system with experience teaching Language Learners,
- Knowledge of curriculum documents and resources,
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with teachers,
- Experience with and knowledge of inclusive practices, differentiation, and formative assessment,
- Experience in facilitating professional learning is also a requirement for this position.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated leadership skills, strong interpersonal skills and effective communication skills
- Preference may be given to candidates who have TESL Certification, SIOP Training and/or second language training or equivalent
