A Celebrate Year in Review at Lakefield Elementary School

In September we held our annual Terry Fox walk and raised $500.00 which was presented to Fred Fox, Terry’s older brother, at an assembly in May. As we entered November we held our career week with several professionals and trades people setting up booths with hands on activities in our gymnasium. Also, in November we sadly had a Lakefield family experience a house fire and we fundraised to help support them as they lost all that they had owned. December meant the food drive which helped to stock the KV Food Basket for the winter months.  As a celebration we held our annual School Wide Breakfast where all students arrived in their PJ and were served a wonderful breakfast of pancakes, bacon and fresh fruit. From January until March our grade 5 leader held student lead activities for the younger students to help get us through the cold winter months leading up to March Break. February brought us Pink day, Random Acts of Kindness week and staff appreciation week where we all were spoiled by our parents at the school. March’s focus was on math with our school wide math Olympics and on fitness as students attended a skate at the Rothesay Commons. In April we entered our fundraising for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and were able to donate $7764.00. May brought warmer weather and we took our Choir and UKE concert on the road to several seniors’ homes in the area as well as an evening performance for our parents. Sadly in May we saw the devastating fires in Alberta and our students were able to raise $1700.00 which was in turn matched by the Red Cross for a total of $3400.00. In June we hosted PJ Stock a former NHL player and a present Hockey Night in Canada announcer as a result of our help with the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Our Family Fun Day was a huge success and filled with fun activities for kids while raising about $8000.00 for the school. In the middle of June, 13 classes who met and participated the fitness challenge will be treated to a swim at the Q Plex. Also presently our students have now taken the lead on raising money for the IWK, the Cherry Brook Zoo, the Joshua Group and collecting food donations for the SPCA. $500.00 from our dress down money was given to the NBTA Branch 06/19 scholarship fund to help support teachers’ children graduating this year and pursuing post-secondary education. Also, our Home and School have given two $1500.00 scholarships to Lakefield Alumni graduating this year.  Quite the year at Lakefield!
