Barnhill Memorial School is the first Best Buddies middle school in the area

Students at Barnhill Memorial School will have their kick off Best Buddies Meet & Greet activity on Tuesday, June 7th at 12:00pm, to help promote social integration of students with special needs at the school. Barnhill Memorial School is the first middle school in the City of Saint John to establish a Best Buddies club.

We hope that this will encourage other schools in the area to launch our friendship program,” said Steven Pinnock, Executive Director of Best Buddies Canada. “Best Buddies is collaborating with schools through fun and simple activities to show all students that despite challenges, everyone needs and deserves a friend. We provide funding for all of the schools involved.”
Best Buddies Canada is a national charity that helps to foster friendships between individuals with special needs and student volunteers in over 450 universities, colleges, high schools, and elementary schools across the country.  Through Best Buddies, students with special needs are given the opportunities to enjoy the same experiences many of us take for granted- such as: having lunch in the cafeteria together, playing sports, watching a movie, or simply enjoying the company of a friend. There are around 31 school chapters in New Brunswick, two of which are in Saint John: Harbour View High School and University of New Brunswick – Saint John.
