Celebrating in ASD-S - April

The New Brunswick Association for Community Living (NBACL) honoured 3 of our own with national inclusive education awards for their work to ensure all learners are included in education, school life and their community.

 

The ceremony was hosted by the Honourable Jocelyne Roy Vienneau, Lieutenant Governor of NB.

 

The award recipients were David Taylor, educator at St. Stephen High School, Anna Buckley, school intervention worker at Fairvale Elementary School, and Jenny Shea, educator at Rothesay High School.

Millidgeville North School

was the site of the 2019 Provincial Chess Tournament.  ASD-S hosted close to 400 chess players from across the province, including 80 from our district, competing to represent New Brunswick at the Canadian National championships in Vancouver in May.

The 2019 Concours d’Art Oratoire (French District Oratorical) was held in each of our education centres. Those who placed in their categories (FI Early & Grade3 point of entry: Grade 6 to Grade 12; FI Late: Grade 7 to Grade 12; PIF: Grade 7 to Grade 12) have qualified to attend the Provincial Concours.

The KVHS Reach for the Top team won the school’s fourteenth Senior Provincial Championship in the last fifteen years.  KVHS also won gold in the junior division. This was the schools eleventh junior provincial title in the last fourteen years.  KV’s senior team will now represent New Brunswick at the National Championships which will be held in Toronto in late May.

Sixteen schools from ASD-S attended the NBCC Saint John Skilled Trades Show where students got a hands-on look at the trades training opportunities and a chance to Try A Trade. As well, St. Malachy's, Harbour View, Hampton High, and Saint John High competed in the NB Skills Competition

Sussex Elementary, Champlain Heights School, Fairvale Elementary, and Grand Bay Primary all welcomed Mi'kmaw Elder Donna Augustine who shared traditional knowledge with students and staff.

The Saint John High School Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Gallagher, travelled to New York to perform and take part in workshops.

ASD-S hosted a Day of Innovation for middle school teachers and one for high school teachers, with workshops related to the humanities, entrepreneurship, global competencies, skills trades and fine arts.  Participants shared, collaborated and learned from others who have shown great creativity in their curriculum.

Kennebecasis Valley High S
chool hosted 170 students involved in Student Council or Renaissance to the Horizons Leadership Conference. Students and their advisors were provided motivation, inspiration and information to make their schools better places to live and learn.
