Health and Safety Tips

Everyone has a role to play in helping students and staff stay healthy. This includes taking simple steps to reduce the spread of illnesses such as COVID-19, the flu, common colds, and stomach bugs in our schools.

Healthy Habits

By following simple, healthy habits, you can help reduce the spread of germs in our school and community.

  • When you cough or sneeze, turn your head and step away from others to give them space. Be sure to cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, cough into your elbow if you don’t have a tissue, and wash or sanitize your hands afterward.
  • Wash or sanitize your hands frequently.
  • Monitor for symptoms. If you have symptoms of COVID-19, we encourage you to get tested and follow Public Health’s advice available online.
  • Stay home if you’re sick. As with all communicable diseases, we ask that students and staff stay home until they have been fever-free for 24 hours with no diarrhea or vomiting for 48 hours without medication.
  • Everyone six months old and above is now able to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • While not required for school attendance, we encourage individuals who choose to wear a mask, based on their level of risk or concern, to do so.
  • Visit the gnb website for additional informaiton.

Mental Health

Wellness and positive mental health are critical in supporting our students’ emotional, physical and academic success.

  • Reach out to school guidance counsellors and teachers for support.
  • Access mental health support options that are available outside of school hours.

Respectful behaviour

While families may have differing perspectives on COVID-19 safety, we ask that everyone be patient, kind, and respectful. We will continue to support our schools so they remain welcoming, supportive environments for everyone.

  • Give others extra space if they need it, and be respectful if they choose to wear a mask. Everyone has different comfort and risk levels.
  • Stay home if you’re sick. By not spreading viruses, you’re showing kindness and respect for your school community and helping your friends, family, teachers or coworkers stay healthy.
