Princess Elizabeth Teacher Participates in Project Overseas

Angela deserves a pat on the back for being the successful candidate for the NBTA in Project Overseas. She will be one of 53 Canadian Teachers travelling overseas this summer. Her group of 4 teachers will be going to Bugosa, Uganda from July 6-26. Before leaving for Uganda she will be going to Ottawa for orientation and training. While in Uganda the emphases will be on literacy, numeracy, teaching strategies, classroom management, teaching English, life skills, PE and school action plans. Although there will be flexibility you can see that this encompasses a very wide professional scope and I think it important that we celebrate Angela for wanting to help others while developing her own professional growth. There has not been a representative from this area in a very long time (if ever!) so it would be nice to recognize her and perhaps pique others' interest in the program.

Angela also hosts a cultural night every year at PES in which families from the school community are invited to bring a dish from their native country to share with others. It is a highlight for the students, families and staff of PES. In 2003 Angela was the recipient of the YMCA Peace Medallion for her efforts overseas in past years and how she translates it to her own school community.
