PITCHfest

On Thursday, May 26th, PITCHfest took place at the ASD-S district office.  PITCHfest was an enrichment and development opportunity for selected Entrepreneurship students from the four Saint John high schools.  It provided approximately forty students an opportunity to collaborate and develop successful pitches for new and innovative product ideas.

Ms. Zoe Watson welcomed the keen students to begin the event.  Mid-morning Mr. Greg Hemmings of the Hemming’s House Pictures and Media gave a keynote pep talk about the value of public speaking and pitching ideas.  The rest of the day was given over to generating exciting student ventures.

Each randomly grouped team received the same size cardboard box and was given the same amount of time to invent a new product.  Just a few of the pitches created included a board game with a digital dimension called Family Game Night, a Pet Hotel and “Eco-Boxe” (a garden in a box.)

Guest judges from the Saint John community selected 4 finalists and the students voted on the winner.  Ultimately, the PITCHfest champion was “Hydro-Box” an environmentally friendly energy storage and generating unit.  The champs were Ethan Hickey from Saint John High School, Geeta Khatiwada from St. Malachy’s Memorial High School and Dana El-Mughayyar from Simmonds High School.

Thank you to organizers Lori Hayes, Ries Van Beek, Stacey Wood and Janet Wilson.  A special thank you to Michele Lodge of Enterprise Saint John, Ms. Beth Horgan and to Ms. Watson for support in the lead up to and during the event.
