May is Food Allergy Awareness Month

ASD-S recognizes Food Allergy Awareness Month in May and remembers the importance of food allergy safety all year long!


Food allergies are one of the leading causes of potentially life-threatening anaphylactic reactions, especially among children. In Canada approximately 4% of children have food  allergies, with the most common being peanuts, eggs, milk, tree nuts, wheat, soy, sesame seeds, seafood, and sulfites. As there is no way of predicting how severe an allergic reaction may be and no known cure for food allergy, avoiding the allergenic food is required to prevent a reaction.


We appreciate the things you do to reduce potential risk to those children with allergies, including keeping our schools nut-free and scent-free facilities.  For more information on Food Allergies, including resources and tips, visit:
