This Week in Kindergarten: March 20 - 24

Upcoming Dates to Remember:

  • March 21 - Field trip to Shannex 10:00 - 11:00

This Week:

Take Home Books: New take home books will come home on Monday.  Please return them by Friday.  Remember that your child should be reading to you!

Shannex Field Trip

  • We are finally going to the Shannex on Tuesday!  We will be there from 10-11.

Literacy

Sight Words:

  • This week we will learn: good, will

  • We have learned: me, I, it, like, the, is, in, can, was, and, to, play, a, that, at, see, he, my, you, said, went, had, go, love, all, here, we, with, be, or, for

  • Practice reading and writing these at home

  • Challenge your child to find sight words they know in books

Reading Strategies:

  • Eagle Eye: He has really good eyesight and reminds us that we need to look at the pictures for clues about what the words might say.

  • Lips the Fish: This week we will learn about Lips the Fish.  Fish have great lips! Lips the Fish reminds us that we need to get our lips ready to say the beginning sound of a word.  We often combine Eagle Eye and Lips the Fish.

Oral Language

  • We are continuing to practicing different goals for oral language daily through read alouds and discussions..

  • Oral language goals;

    • I can ask and answer questions

    • I can be polite and take turns when talking

    • I can listen to others when they talk

    • I can talk to a small group or the whole class

    • I can understand that talk sounds different in different situations

    • I can give my opinion

    • I can follow and give simple directions

Writing:

  • We are writing an independent piece.  We will focus on our writing goals and hopefully reach them!  From here, students will conference with the teacher individually and choose new goals together.

  • Self and Peer assessment:  When we look at a piece of writing (our own or our classmates’) we give 2 stars and a wish.  This means that they say two things they like about the writing (stars) and one thing they wish they added (wish).

Math

  • With Multicultural week coming up we will be learning some games from different cultures!  Many of these games involve counting and strategy.

  • We will begin to take a look at our new unit, capacity.
