Dear Families,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are ready for another great week in grade three!  Please make sure we have your correct contact information in the event of an emergency.  Thank you for all your support!

What we are learning:
Our Balanced Literacy Block, which includes Read to Self – reading good fit books; Work on Writing – letters; and Word Work – individualized spelling program continues.
In Math, we are working on a unit on Addition and Subtraction.  Students will be learning mental math strategies, such as: using doubles; making a ten; and zero property. Students need to practice addition and subtraction of two – digit numbers.
In Science, we will be working on a Unit on Invisible Forces.
In Social Studies, we are learning about the Province of New Brunswick.

Information Items/Dates to Remember:
·         It is very important that you label your child’s jackets, sweaters, coats, shoes, backpack, etc… to help us get lost items of clothing to their rightful owners!  A lost and found box has been set up on the dance floor, so you can check if your child has lost something.
·         Please send extra mittens and socks to keep at school if your child needs a dry pair.
·         Monday, December 5 – Tree lighting at GNMES at 6:30.
There will be 2 Christmas concert performances this year for K-2 students. The dates are December 12th and 13th.  The Christmas Concert is called “Elflandia” and both shows will be at 9:15 a.m. on those dates.  Families with last names starting with A-K are Monday, and families with last names starting with L-Z are Tuesday.  The children will perform for both concerts and parents can attend one concert to watch.
Pizza Fundraiser – Information sent home. Order must be placed by December 7.
Christmas Dinner – December 20, Information sent home. Order must be placed by December 16.  Thank you!
Last Day of School – Friday, December 23 – half day dismissal.

Homework
·         Each week, your child will be bringing home books at his/her independent reading level (good fit books). Please make time each night to allow your child to read these to you.  An important component of strengthening your child’s reading skills is regular home reading practice. Ask your child about what they are reading and have them answer questions.
·         For some fun math practice at home with your child, continue to practice addition and subtraction of two–digit numbers. (44 + 22 = 66 and 75 – 50 = 25). Make sure to visit the Xtra Math site.
·         As always if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at school, send a note in your child’s communication bag, or send me an email.
