Dear Families:

 We are
looking forward to seeing you at the Christmas concert this week!  Your little elf is excited to perform for you
on December 12th and 13th. The Christmas Concert is called “Elflandia”
and both shows will be at 9:15 a.m. on those dates.Families with last names starting with A-K
are invited to attend on Monday, and families with last names starting with L-Z
are Tuesday. All children will be performing on both days. Remember to bring
a non-perishable item to donate to the Fredericton Community Kitchen on concert
day!

What we are
learning:

Literacy - This week we will introduce the next
five words of List 3 (what, so, see, not, were). Our reading strategy for the
month of December is to give a good oral retell after reading, making sure to
include the beginning, middle and end. We will also introduce the  sounds “ou/ow” ( as in the words mouse/cow).

Math – We will continue to review +0/+1/+2 and introduce +3 over
the next couple of weeks (the strategy that the children have learned is to
find the greatest number and count on).

You and Your World - We will discuss the difference between
needs and wants and how media influences consumers.

Information
Items/Dates to Remember:

·
The
last day of school for 2016 will be Friday, December 23rd. Please
note that this is a half day
for students. Students’ first day back will be on Tuesday, January 10th.

·
The
cafeteria will be serving Christmas dinner on Tuesday, December 20th.
No other options will be available to purchase on that day. Orders are due no later than the 16th of
December and payment ($5.50) can also be made online.

·
WE ACT
group is selling Christmas ornaments for $1.00 each-proceeds are going to the
Community Kitchen and Haiti.

·
It
would be helpful if your child had an extra change of clothes including mittens
and socks as we are noticing many are coming in from recess with wet clothes.

·
Please
continue to help your child become independent with putting on and taking off
winter gear.

Homework

·
Each night
have your child read 1 good
fit book to his/her “homework helper” and please practice sight words and
phrases as well.

·
Have a
look around your house for any overdue library books as the librarian would
like to have all books back to the library before the Christmas break.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish
each family a very Merry Christmas! We are looking forward to working with you
again in the new year!

As always, if
you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call me at school,
send a note in your child’s communication bag, or send an e-mail.
