Memo for Garden Creek Parents and Guardians
Welcome to
the last week of September, Creeker Families!
Here is what
is up at the Creek:
School
Messenger: We
understand that parents have received texts from Anglophone School West
regarding an invitation to receive text messages from both District and from
our school through the “School messenger” service. This will be
particularly useful to advise parents of school being cancelled either on full
days due to weather or even for an early dismissal due to weather. The
school may use it for other purposes as well as we go forward, including
attendance. You may choose to opt in or opt out of this text service.
Please see the attached flyer for more information.
Bussing – please ensure that there is an
adult at the bus stop to meet your child, unless you have signed off that your
child ( in grade 3-5) can be let off the bus without an adult present. If there
is no adult at the bus stop, your child’s bus driver will have to bring your
child back to the school for pick up. Thank you.
Student Vote
– Some
classes in grades 4-5 are involved in Student Vote tomorrow. They have been
learning about the electoral process and will be “casting” their vote at the
Creek tomorrow, along with many other New Brunswickers. A good
reminder to all of us to get out and vote and get others out to vote.
Hot Lunch – Our first hot lunch is this
Tuesday. Thursday hot lunch will begin once Chartwell’s is ready to make
deliveries.
PSSC Meeting
– Our first
Parent School Support Committee will take place this Tuesday, September 25th,
at 6:30 pm. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please see previous email
in regard to the PSSC and becoming a member.
Orange Shirt Day - This
coming Friday, in conjunction with many schools through the District, Garden
Creek is planning to celebrate Orange Shirt Day to commemorate residential
schools. We encourage students to wear their favourite orange shirt
to school that day Students will be watching an age appropriate video
of a read aloud that commemorates residential schools. It is a time
to listen, learn and celebrate Aboriginal culture.
Giving Back! Creeker
Bottle Drive to Support Sidney - next Saturday, the 29th between 9:00 to 12. We
ask that you drop off any Tetra packs, bottles, cans or plastic bottles or cans
that are recyclable to our school. Our staff and student leaders will donate
the funds to support a former Creeker student, Sidney, who is battling
leukemia. She is also raising money for the Light the Night walk taking
place on October 13th through Team Sidney. Please see the
attached information to support her! WE ARE WITH SIDNEY!!
