RE: CONFIRMED COVID-19
CASE AT LEO HAYES HIGH SCHOOL

Dear Parents and Guardians of Leo Hayes High
School,

We have been informed of a positive Covid-19
case at Leo Hayes High School. We are working with Public Health officials to
identify any students and school personnel who may have been in contact with
the case.

Public Health Officials or your school will
contact you if your child has been:

Identified as a close contact
with the confirmed case.
In this instance, your child will be asked to
self-isolate for 14 days. Further instructions on isolation may be given
by Public Health, or;
Potentially exposed to the
case due to a common environment exposure
. An example of this would be
using the same classroom. In this instance, your child will be asked to
self-isolate until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 11, and self-monitor to
allow for contact tracing and risk assessment to be done.

If you
are not contacted by Public Health (through a call or a message from your
school), your child does not need to self-isolate and may continue with regular
activities, including attending school.

At this time, in-person learning will
continue tomorrow as per the regular schedule.

It is natural to want to know if your child may
have been exposed to the virus but to protect the privacy of students and
school personnel, other details, including names, will not be released.

Children and young people look to the adults in
their lives to guide them on how to react to worrying and stressful events.
Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about any anxieties and remind
them to treat one another with kindness and respect, in person and on social
media.

If your child is showing any symptoms of
Covid-19, you should:

Register
them online for a test by clicking “Get tested” on the GNB coronavirus
website (www.gnb.ca/coronavirus). OR
Contact
Tele-Care 811.

The 811 operators will evaluate your child
before sending them for testing. If you have questions that are health-related,
please write to COVID-19NB@gnb.ca

Thank you for your continued support as we
respond to the pandemic.

Sincerely,

David McTimoney, Superintendent
