The NMS “Try for 5 – This School Just Got HEALTHIER” initiative is a whole-school challenge selected by the NMS Student Wellness Club to encourage staff and students to eat at least 5 fruit or vegetables a day for the month of February. Try for 5 motivates the entire school body to become ambassadors for healthy eating.
How will “Try for 5 – This School Just Got Healthier” be structured:
1. Every morning teachers will ask students if they ate 5 fruits/vegetables the day before.
2. Fruits and vegetables that were consumed at home will count towards the 5.
3. If your child ate less than 5 fruits/vegetables, we will count that as well. The goal is to at least eat 5; however, we will count all fruit/vegetables to a total of 5 per day.
4. The data will be recorded by the classroom teacher and posted in each classroom as well as in the hallway. We will have a fundraising thermometer that will update the progress of the challenge.
