Good morning again Park Street Orchestra Families!
It seems, after having conversations with some
students and emails, that there may be need for clarification of the intent of
First and foremost, this is an event to get students
to practice (as we find at this time of year students can get into a bit of a
practicing slump) and to work together as a group to encourage their peers to
spend some more time practicing. The fundraising part, although it will be
a great help in raising funds for the music program, IS NOT mandatory in any
way. If you have not started recording practice time, please feel free to start
now, any bit of practicing will help their section.
Two of our three prizes are focused on the time spent
practicing, one for the individual who practices the most and a pizza party for
the section that practices the most (on average.) Neither of these prizes have
to do with fundraising, as I want everyone to have an equal opportunity to
participate and have a chance to win.
If anyone has any more questions or concerns, please
do not hesitate to contact me.

Your Practice Earns Money for the Park Street School Orchestra
Find sponsors or pledges
Start by contacting your
friends and family: your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and
anyone else you can think of. Ask them to pledge a certain amount for every
minute practiced (ex: $0.10/minute) or a pledge a flat donation (ex: $25). Use
the Sponsor Sheet attached to track your pledges.
Keep track of your practice time
From February 6th
through March 3rd, keep track of your hours practiced on the
Practice Log attached.
At the end of the
Practice-a-thon, you will need to collect your donations. Turn in to Mrs.
Benson your Sponsor Sheet, Practice Log, and total money collected by March 13th.
There will be prizes for the
most minutes practiced and the most money collected. The section with the most
minutes of practice time (averaged, so the larger ensembles do not have an
automatic advantage) will win a pizza party!
The sections are:
Beginner Violin A
Beginner Violin B
Beginner Violin C
Beginner Violin D

So get together with your friends and start planning your routines! Stay tuned for times and dates for auditions over the next few weeks.
Dear Park Street Families
Again this year, Orchestra, Junior Choir and Glee will be doing their pointsettia fundraiser in partnership with Scott's Nursery. Each year, Scott's produces thousands of beautiful poinsettias in a variety of colours (red, white, pink, multi hues). Through our partnership with them, we are able to sell 6 inch and 8 inch poinsettias at a great price and fund-raise some money for our music programs.
The process is simple: ask friends and family if they would like to purchase a poinsettia, collect the money, send th emoney in to school and we will provide you with a coupon to go to Scott's Nursery and pick out the poinsettia you wish to have. (Please keep in mind that this is a fundraiser and our asking price is $1-2 higher than the price at the store.)
6 inch poinsettias are $15 and 8 inch are $30. We accept cash and cheques (made out to Park Street School). We are asking that all orders be turned in to your child's teacher no later than December 5th, as this allows us to collect the coupons from Scott's and get them to you.
Thank you so much for your continued support of our music programs!

Hello Park Street Music Families
On Wednesday, November 30th, Park Street will
be hosting their Fourth Annual Christmas Community Auction in support of our
many performing arts groups here at school.
Each year, Glee, junior choir, orchestra, drama, puppet club, black
light theatre, visual arts and dance clubs look for ways to raise funds to
support the many activities offered to students at the school. Last year, the silent auction raised a lot of
money and helped out many of these clubs with their financial needs. It is because of the generous donations and
support of MANY people and businesses in the community that we are able to host
this wonderful event.
Our performing arts culture is a strong one at Park
Street, and it continues to grow each year!
It is very evident from the participation numbers in orchestra, and both
choirs! This year, we are asking parents of the three musical groups (Glee,
Junior Choir and Orchestra) to donate some baking for a bake sale that will
take place during the evening. We are
asking the items to be peanut/nut-free and pre-packaged for easy display on the
tables. For example, if you bake
a dozen cookies, please place 3-4 in a baggie and we will price and place the
bags on the table. Items for the sale
should be dropped off to us on Tuesday, November 29th so we can
figure out how much space we need everything. Perhaps you could send an email to us to let
us know you will be contributing. Glee
parents can email email@example.com , Junior choir and Orchestra parents can
We thank you so much in advance for your continued
support of the performing arts groups at Park Street and we look forward to
seeing you on November 30th at the auction!
