Weekly update

Hi there grade 5 families!

Thank you to everyone who test drove a Nissan on Saturday - I liked the SUV - how about you? We apprecaite your support. Here are the reminders and important updates for this week:

  • Reading 15 minutes per night in French - Please use the online link (https://www.readinga-z.com/worldlanguages/french/leveled-books/) with your child or ask them for their two books from the classroom. Reading daily in the target language greatly increases fluency in learners
  • Practice basic math facts (addition or subtraction) using Xtra-math or flash cards or this wonderful site: https://www.logicieleducatif.fr/math/numeration/nombreschiffres.php
  • This week is safe schools week. Tuesday we will be doing our school evacuation to NMS, Wednesday practicing bus evacuations, and Thursday we will have a Cyber Awareness presentation with our tech lead, Mr. Whipple.
  • A reminder that we are still collecting money for Polio. Just $2 can help vaccinate a child against this debilitating disease. .
  • We are beginning flex math groups this week. We will be focusing on representing and describing and ordering numbers to 100 000 000 (N1) as well as reviewing basic strategies for mental math (N3; N4), estimation (N2) and addition/subtraction.
  • In literacy we will begin working on our Leadership project writing a paragraph about an individual we feel destmonstrates leadership qualities and has positively contributed to their community
  • In English we are working towards a research project focusing on comparing/contrasting different First Nations' cultures from the Atlantic Canadian region
Upcoming dates:
  • Wednesday, Oct 24th: Take Me Outside Day
  • Thursday, Oct 25th: Picture re-taks
