Updates and Reminders for March 19-23rd, 2018

​Dear Parents and Families,

Here are the updates and reminders for this week for students in grade 5 Mme Conn's class:


1)  Dreambox  -work on Division questions (due Friday)

2) Grade 5 Celebration Parent Meeting March 19th 6:30PM. All grade 5 parents welcome. 

3)  Word Work-in agenda. Please study for mini quiz Fri, March 23rd

4)  Grade 5 Celebration Pictures: 1 baby picture,      1 kindergarten picture and 1 grade 5 picture. Email to kelly.davidson@nbed.nb.ca by March 23rd, 2018.

5) Mystery Book Report-5 objects that relate to the clues in the novel, drawing of favourite scene, character descriptions, explanations and 5 star, all in a decorated shoebox with the title of the book . Project due Wed, March 28th.   

6) Social Studies-grandparent interview due March 27th

7) Day of Coding is April 6th. Please bring in recyclable materials such as newspaper, cardboard, marbles, lego to help our class build 4 coding mats by March 21st.                            ​

Weekly Update

Hello families,

​I hope you all enjoyed this chilly weekend. It looks like winter is here to stay a bit longer. Here are the homework items and reminders for this week:

  • Reading 15 minutes per night in French - I am currently doing another round of reading evalautions before the April report card
  • Dreambox - please try to do 2 lessons at home this week
  • Students will be beginning the Fractions and Decimal Numbers unit in Flexible math groups this week
  • Monday we have a presentation from the Multicultural Association celebrating Black History Month (post-poned from February
  • Please return any library books Tuesday
  • Yearbook group photos for clubs will be taken Wednesday morning
  • We will have a social studies quiz for our Canada unit Thursday. Students are responsible to identify the 10 provinces and 3 territories on a map, as all as list the capital cities.
  • A reminder that we are swimming Thursday morning. Please ensure students bring their bathing suits and a towel!
  • Rights Respecting will be having a bake sale fundraiser Thursday at recess
  • This week is La semaine de la fierté française! Our classes will be celebrating with some center activities Friday.

What's up in 1A this week...
Bonjour les familles,
I hope you all had a wonderful March break!  I did...took lots of time to relax and read, and got a little skiing in too!  Here is what's up this week...
Math:  flexible math groups continue Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri. If you haven't already done so, please sign and return the math letter that came home in your family file.
Literacy:  We are starting a new unit on being healthy. We will be studying the 4 food groups and lots of ways to have a healthy life style.  There is a lot of new vocabulary, so this will be a fun, interactive month!  Stay tuned for more information as the weeks go on...
Bienvenue Emily Boyle!  Mme Boyle is a STU intern who will be working in our classroom for the next 8 weeks. We are very excited to be welcoming her into our class and look forward to learning from her over the next several weeks!
There is NO popcorn snack this week. However, there will be popcorn for the next two weeks in a row because of the missed week this week.

Welcome back!

​Hello families,

I hope you all had a restful March break! Here are the homework items and reminders for our first week back:

  • Please return any library books for Tuesday
  • Students who returned their permission slips for the UNB hockey game will be attending Friday afternoon. A reminder that they will need to be picked up at 4:00 pm. 
  • Next week students will be beginning Fractions and Decimal numbers in flexible math groups
Upcoming dates:
  • March 19th - 23rd:  We will be exploring and celebrating French culture during La semaine de la fierté française
  • March 19th: Our class will be learning about Black History with a presentation from the Multicultural Association

Pandamonium Week

Hello families!

Please see the attached notice regarding a number of special activities the Student Council has planned for PANDAmonium week (February 26th - March 2nd).

What's Up in 1A this week

Bonjour les familles,
Just a reminder that this week is PANDAmonium week at PSS.  Here is a run down of each day's activity...
Monday:  PJ Day and veggie snacks provided to each class
Tuesday:  Crazy hair day and cheese string snacks - 11AM DISMISSAL
Wednesday: Pink shirt day and yogurt tube snacks
Thursday:  Outrageous outfit and fruit tray snack
Friday:  Compliments day and granola bar treats as well as outdoor activities in the pm
Looks like a GREAT week!  5 days until March break :)

The student council has arranged for a few dress up days next week for Pandamonium. Please encourage your child to participate!

Tues, February 27th Crazy Hair Day

Wed, February 28th-Pink t-shirt and accessories day! Stand up against bullying.

Thurs, March 1st-Outrageous outfits day! Wear bright colours, accessoires and make a fashion trend!

Friday, March 2nd-Show an Act of Kindness day. Outdoor activities in the afternoon 2-3PM.

Thank you!

Thank you to all the parents and families who volunteered to help on our Skating Field-trip today! The event was very successful and students were saying how much they enjoyed it! We enjoyed cookies and hot chocolate afterwards.
