Grade 2 Week at a Glance (May 27-May 31)

Tuesday Night – Pack library books to be sent back Wednesday.

NightlyRead good-fit books/Raz-Kids.   Reading out loud to a family member helps with fluency and expression.  *****June benchmark for reading- Students need to be reading books at level K independently, fluently, and with good comprehension*****

LiteracyPlease continue to practice/review all sight words and Sound Teams. If your child can read all of the sight words, have him/her try spelling them or writing them in a sentence.  Practice spelling the grade 2 no excuse spelling words.

Reading: Expression

·        Encourage your child to read with expression! Point out how quotation marks mean someone is talking and that we may have to change our tone of voice to match the speaker. Also, be watching for question marks, exclamation marks, and/or words printed in bold or all uppercase letters which usually indicates that the reader should be using expression and/or changing tone of voice.

Writing:  Non-fiction writing - The students will continue researching and gathering information about an animal and writing a report.

Math:

Please continue to practice addition and subtraction facts (both single digit and double digit), both orally and with paper and pencil.

Practice Facts with answers to 20 and make sure your child is using strategies.

Ask your child math word problems to practice their strategies……

I had $54 and I spent $29, so how much money do I have left?

I had $45, my mom gave me 17 more, I spent 8 and I found 10….how much do I now have? Etc.

I want to buy a bike for $97 and I have $45, so how much more do I need?

I went shopping with $60 and I came home with $12…how much did I spend?
