Grade 2 Week at a Glance (Sept. 23-27)

 Tuesday Night
Pack library books to be sent back Wednesday.  Our Librarian was out so your child does not
have new books.

Literacy:

Words
of the Week:
clock, stop, them,
then, off, jump, went, too

Word Family:  -ock
How many words can you think of that end with the –ock sound?

We are reviewing
word endings: s, ing ck and ed

Practiced
reading the words: packing,
hops, quack, looking, mats

There are 3
sounds for the ending ed:   planted, talked, played

Reading
strategy:
Back Up and Reread.  Good readers are always asking themselves
“does what I am reading make sense?” If it is not making sense, we should back
up and reread.

We have been reviewing the reading
strategies learned in grade 1:  Eagle Eye, Lips the Fish, Stretchy Snake, Chunky
Monkey, Skippy Frog, Flippy Dolphin, Tryin’ Lion, and Helpful Kangaroo
.  Please use the strategy book mark provided
while your child is reading with you at home.

This week’s focus: Stretchy
Snake
: Stretch out the word so you can hear each sound.

Writing:  We
are working on generating ideas to write about.
We are also learning about the writing process.  Good writers follow a process of thinking
about a topic before they write. We are working on writing an introduction,
followed by details related to the topic, and finally a conclusion.

Math: We will be continuing our unit on patterns this week. We
will continue to explore repeating and increasing patterns.  You can support your child’s learning by
having him/her create, extend, and copy patterns using various household
materials.

Starting this week, each child will be
responsible for bringing home a book to read each night.
