at a Glance (Sept.30-Oct.4)

 

 

 

 Tuesday Night – Pack library books to be sent back Wednesday.  (There was no library last week.)

 

 
 

Nightly – read good fit book, practice sight words/words of the
week and sound teams introduced up to this point

 

 
 

 
 

Literacy:

 

Words of the Week: 
joke,
crash, crashes, than, truck, thing, kicked, quit    
(please highlight on the sheet
which was sent home)   

 

 
 

Word Family:  -oke.  How many words can you think of that end with
the –oke sound?

 

 
 

Sound Teams:  This week we will review the following Sound
Teams – ch,th,sh,wh  qu,ck, ing     (please highlight on the sheet which was
sent home)

 

 
 

Practice reading the following words: wish, thump, chips,
white, fish, chop

 

 
 

This week’s focus: Chunky
Monkey: Look for a “chunk” that you know, ing, at etc or a part you know, be,
er etc

 

 
 

Comprehension Strategy

 

·       
Making Predictions – before reading a book ask your child to predict what the book is
about.  Stop mid-way and ask what your
child to predict what will happen next.

 

 
 

 
 

Writing:  This week we will focus on editing our
writing.  We will be looking for proper
punctuation, proper use of upper/lower case letters, and finger spaces.

 

 
 

Math:  This week’s focus will be odd and even
numbers to 20.  We will also be
representing numbers to 50 in a
variety of ways.  Please practice the
following with your child:

 

·       Counting forward and backward from
different starting points (17 – 36, or 48-29)

 

·      
Say a
number and have your child write the numeral. Work on reversed numbers.

 

·      
One more
one less than numbers to 50

 

·       Have your child show you a given number
using house hold items (buttons, coins, noodles etc).
