Grade 2 Week at a Glance (Oct. 14-18)

 

 Tuesday Night – Pack library books to be sent back Wednesday. 

 

 
 

Nightly – read good fit book, practice sight words/words of the
week and sound teams introduced up to this point

 

 
 

 
 

Literacy:

 

Words
of the Week: 
more, eating, played   green,
here, float, rain, mail

 

 
 

We have been looking again at the
three sounds of ed on the end of a
word as well as the ing and s. Please note this with your child
while practicing the words this week.

 

 
 

Word Family:  -ore
How many words can you think of that end with the –ore sound?

 

 
 

Sound Team:  we will be
reviewing the long vowel strategy: when two vowels go walking the first one
does the talking – ee,oa, ea, ie, ai, ay.  Practice spelling/reading the following words
at home:  throat, steam, train, spray, tie, sheet

 

Please highlight these sound teams on the sheet
sent home.   


 

 

 

This week’s focus: Skippy
Frog
: Skip the word you don’t know and read to the end of the sentence. Hop
back and read it again.

 

 
 

 
 

Writing:  We
are continuing to review strategies: punctuation, neat printing, spacing, using
the word wall to spell sight words, have a beginning middle and ending to
stories, adding details.

 

 
 

Math:  We will continue
to represent numbers to 50 in a variety of ways.  Please continue to practice the following
with your child:

 

·       
Counting forward and backward by 2’s and
10’s from different starting points.  For
example:  start at 18 and count be 2’s to
68.  Start at 30 and count by 10’s to
100.

 

·       
Say a number and have your child write the
numeral.

 

·       
One more one less than numbers to 50.

 

·       
Have your child show you a given number
using house hold items (buttons, noodles etc). 
Group the objects by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s and count them.

 

·       
Identify odd/even numbers to 20.

 

·       
Place five numbers (up to 50) in front of
your child and have them order them from least to greatest or greatest to
least.  Ask them how they know the order.
