Grade 2 Week
at a Glance (Nov. 11-15)

Tuesday Night – Pack library books to be sent back Wednesday.

Nightly – read good fit book, practice sight words, practice
sound teams introduced up to this point.
Students now have the option of reading books online on Raz-kids.

Literacy:

Words of the Week:
shook, gym, found, about, said, what

Word Family:  -ash.  How many words can you think of that end with
the –ash sound?

Sound Team: This week we
will work on the 2 sounds oo makes…..please have your child practice the words:
food, hood, good, mood

We will learn about soft g.  The letter g makes the soft sound when it
comes before the letters e, i, or y (ie; giraffe, page, stage, etc.)

Writing:  Conventions

This week we will continue to focus on conventions.
In order to practice these conventions (sounding out words phonetically(sounding
out a word so the reader can read it…example-pritee…makes sense to spell pretty
this way!), finger spaces, neatness, lower/uppercase letters, periods, etc.)
ask your child to write a sentence using one of the sight words this week. For
example, have him/her write a sentence using the word gym. Please use lined
paper such as loose leaf. Check that your child is properly using all of the
conventions mentioned above (you do not need to send it in to me.)

Math:

Continue
to apply skip counting skills: count by 2(to 20) 5 and 10 to 50.

Have
your child count different
combinations of coins.  For example 3
dimes, 1 nickel and 2 pennies etc.

Ask
them to show you different money
amounts…..Show me 47 cents etc.

You
can also practice skip counting by having them count different objects…blocks,
noodles, buttons etc.  You can group them
with different amounts….show them 2 groups of 10, a group of 5 and 2 loose
ones.

Can
you skip count by 2 starting on a number other than 2? Start on 12, for
example. Start on an odd number….skip count by 2 starting on 9.

Can
you skip count by 2 backwards from different starting points up to 20? 16-4.
Start on an odd number…19-7
